New dog
Hi all if this post is in the wrong section i do apologise, anyway we have Hollie our brindle girl 2 & 1/2 years old and she is a very clam girl and walks great off the lead, and good with the kids, we would like to get another dog and looking at some rescue staffies tomorrow, how would we introduce them? bit concerned they will fight if we bring one home ,is it best for another girl or go for a boy? we ideally would like one as calm as her but i know that may not be possible, just wondered if anyone has introduced another dog into their home with another dog. thank you

Re: New dog
Hi Kerry
Although ive not experienced this myself...yet...I do know that it would be wise to take your dog to the shelter with you a number of times to introduce them together on neutral ground, its important that your pooch gets on perfectly with the new one, after all you will be bringing an almost stranger into his house and the last thing you want is dominance behaviour.
A lot of people recommend getting a male and female rather than two the same sex, again, i think this is due to dominance although there are people with the same sex so i guess it depends on your pooch.
What kind of age will you be looking at for the new pooch?

Re: New dog
As kita says lots go for opposite sex, but some have the same sex too, it's best to introduce on neutral ground, quite a few of our members have rescued a second dog and I'm sure they'll be along shortly to offer some advice, keep us updated

Re: New dog
Ask the rescue centre if you can take your dog along with you when you go to have a look at another dog. This way they can meet in a controlled environment with skilled staff on hand to help with any questions you may have.
They will also be able to match you with a suitable new friend.

Re: New dog
We had harvey 9 months before we saw Chance.
We took harvey to the rescue where walked around with the both on lead, and they then got to play offlead in a enclosed area.
When we picked Chance up we took them for a long walk before chance ever went in the house, and then they went in together and volia bestest buddies
