Forth glade
Hi all
I've been feeding dexter my 20 week old staffy on a mix of optima k9 complete dry food with a small helping of forth glade mixed in, he doesn't seem to like this brand of dry food but chomps down the wet food with gusto . I've decided to try James wellbeloved complete dry,how ever I've had lots of advice suggesting I should go with forth glade wet and standard biscuit / mixer ( I'm told with the currant menu I'm given him to much protein which could be the reason he's very hyper active). Is this sound advise , if so could any one advise me on a good mixer as I'm told pedigree mixer isn't the best.
Any advised on food welcome

Re: Forth glade
Personally, I'd advise against a wet food diet. Wet food (cans or trays) are about 80% water and so you have to feed much more just to get the right amount of nutrients in them!
James Wellbeloved won't make your pup hyperactive. It isn't any higher in protein than most good, mid range dog foods. It isn't the protein that makes them hyper, it's the additives in some of the other foods that does it (colouring, flavouring, maize, wheat, corn, oats etc, plus E numbers in a few cases that are known to cause cancer!).
Protein is the building blocks of muscular and skeletal growth and health & any good food will have quality meat stated as it's first ingredient (not meat meal), and the first meat content will normally be at least 25%, preferably more.

Re: Forth glade
cant add to what Caryll has said tbh. i only feed dry unless its been a hard day then i will suppliment with raw minced beef, sardines, eggs, chicken or turkey thighs which is a good protein hit. complete kibble gives my two all they need with the exception of zinc which is a husky thing and shouldt worry you mate.

Re: Forth glade
Ok thanks for the speedy response
So, break in the j wellbeloved over a week then slowly reduce the amount of forth glade to nothing?
By the way what are people's thoughts on James wellbeloved dry complete

Re: Forth glade
James Wellbeloved is a good, mid priced food, and it's also hypoallergenic. A lot of people feed it!
Some dogs get bored with just dry food, and if that's the case then mixing a small amount of wet (or even a raw egg or some sardines in oil) in with it will tempt their appetite. But I'd never give wet as the main food source.

My pup is on james wellbeloved dry and i have no issues with it,he seems to like it,i also mix in james wellbeloved wet food just to add abit more taste which works.
Also other advice here to add other good quality food sources can work well to.
