he bit my mum!!
Hi, i have Diesel 1 yr old Staff, has some mouthing issues that we are working with, was taken from mum at 3 weeks, is slightly nervous and can be over excitable at times. He goes training once a week and does good. Well i left him at my mums whilst i went school as i have done in past, he used to pace up and down and not relax till i got back but has been better lately. Well my mum went down garden to putn something in shed she was walking back down garden when diesel started jumping up excitedly as if she had just come back from a day out! She put her hand down to him and said " Its ok mum will be back in min." well he bit her finger and held onto it, growling and showing teeth, he is a very vocal dog in play and when i first got him at 15 weeks it worried my but i now know that that is just the noise he makes he is not being vicious at all. I dont know what to think, my thoughts are leaning towards he was playing and got a bit rough, but when my mum said he wouldnt let go and was growling that shocked me. Once on a walk in park he got a bit overexcited abd grabbed my trousers and was pulling them, he wouldnt let go, he nearly pulled me over. now if he starts to get to this stage now on a walk i diffuse it quickly. i just dont know what to think. my mum was bleeding and has nearly an inch cut on finger. she did pull her hand back so may have ripped it. can anyone offer me any thing, hes normally a soppy loving dog but as i said he has had some issues that we work with, they may not even be issues as ive read on here that a lot of staffs mouth to hard and rag your clothes Thank you in advace

Re: he bit my mum!!
I would suggest that Diesel was perhaps a little over excited, or perhaps anxious at having had your mum out of sight and was excited at her return ... it does not sound to me as though this was aggressive or 'attacking' though. (Chiquito will often jump up, mouth and tug on clothes/hands when he is overly excited - especially when i first get home!).

Re: he bit my mum!!
Thank you. I know my mums skin is a little fragile now as he has grabbed her trouser leg and caught her leg before and it bled for ages and is still healing now. she said that hes lips were curled back showing teeth and was growling, its really worrying me actually, even if it was in play how can that be acceptable to give her a great big cut like that, unless I saw it I don't think I will ever know the truth.

Re: he bit my mum!!
I assume dogs don't really know how they can hurt us, Rocky does tend to get over excited, especially when he wants to be cheeky, he does bare teeth and tries to nip us, but we have been extremely stern with him, and when he does we walk away and not fuss around him to let him continue the action. Ive notice the more we leave the situation the less he has done it. Although as many people have said here, ive got countless amounts of clothes that have huge holes in them now as they do enjoy biting lol. I would just keep an eye out for it and nip it in the bud. Im sure its nothing viscous

Re: he bit my mum!!
It sounds more like over excitement & rough play than anything else. Frightening, but not dangerous.
You (and your Mum) might need to reinforce some boundaries regarding jumping up & nipping/rough play, but you will both have to do exactly the same things or it'll confuse him!

Can't do anything but quoting Maria90. Everytime I come back I ignore Jess for a few minutes and I say hello only when she's calm. She used to jump up on me at the beginning but she stopped when she understood I wouldn't give her attention. Hope this help.
