Need emergency advice on keeping my dog quiet please!!
Hi all
I am posting to ask for suggestions on how I can keep my pooch quiet when I am not at home?
Due to complaints from neighbours, my landlords have said if they get more complaints about him I won't be allowed to keep him here anymore
After reading another post on here I have switched his diet from bakers to royal canin, and this has helped to calm him down a bit. He gets 2 hours of walk everyday, so he is tired out as much as I can too. Since complaints I have started leaving the radio on for him, just wondering if anybody has any tips, if there is anything else I can do please?

I leave the radio on for frankie and as Ella said a stuffed kong. That keeps him busy and occupied and the radio blocks out any noises that may make him bark

You could try crating? Depends how long you are gone for as to whether you can have the door closed or leave it open, but I know a lot of dogs use it as there safe haven and he may feel more secure having a den to go to Xx

I leave the TV on fairly loud when I go out n leave the pooches.
That way they don't bark at every small sound they hear. I also close the curtains, so they can't be peeping out the windows!
Other than that, stagbars and stuffed kongs

I do the same thing, stops them reacting to stimulus outside!

As already said, you could try investing in a crate - not to lock him in, that wouldn't be right for long periods! But leave the door open & cover the other 3 sides & the top with an old blanket or curtain. Put some blankets/fleeces in the botton to make it comfortable & it'll become his own little 'den'.
Hopefully, if he feels safe in his den he'll sleep a lot more & when he's asleep, he isn't barking!
You could also go round to your neighbours, apologise, and ask then to bear with you whilst you deal with the problem. If you let them know that you're trying to do something about it, the complaints might stop!

the crate thing is brilliant as are the stuffed kongs and some safe toys to leave out. We leave the door open on tash's crate but inevitably she's always in there when we come back, it is covered with a duvet and she loves it. I come back at dinner time. Could you invest in a dog walker to come in and wear your dog out in the daytime too. How long is your dog left for?

I usually leave Jess in the living room with the curtains closed and the radio on. I also leave a stuffed kong and a bone to chew, this might help

Re: Need emergency advice on keeping my dog quiet please!!
Thanks everybody for the suggestions, much appreciated
I have come to think most of the problem was he was all excited and wanting to come along with me, so was hollering as I left. Now I make sure he is well exercised and settled before going out and this appears to be helping!
He does have a crate, only likes to be in there at night though so i just make sure there is nothing he can do too much damage to where he can reach and let him have the space now, he will quite happily just calmly sit and watch me leave now. I am in and out all day, so he is never on his own for more than a couple hours at a time. I think having 2 hour long walks each day helps now too. Of course in hind sight I prob shouldn't have assumed he would be quiet once I was out of sight and tried to keep him calm, but ne'er mind we are getting there! First time dog owner, and despite trying to do the research and see what I should be doing I am still learning most things with him the hard way!

P.s, kong is a massive hit, both when full of treats or empty and bouncing about
