Puppy eats as fast as Nell
Hi
I have a 7mnt old black and white staffy who i adore, i am concerned about her because she eats really fast, which has resulted in her being sick a few times!
does anybody have any ideas (other than feed by hand) on how to slow her down??

Re: Puppy eats as fast as Nell
you could try a feeding ball if she is on dry, Eating to quickly or wolfing it down as it is called can cause a few digestive problems and like you said cause sickness but i would use a feeding ball.
They usually wolf it down if they feel it is going to be taken off of them like her siblins would of done when first weaning. Having them stay calm during feeding will help alot no other animals or people around her while feeding etc.

Welcome to the forum!
How many times a day do you feed her?
You could also try putting just a small amount in her bowl at a time, leaving 5 minutes or so in between each portion.

I saw this on a show once... try dividing her food into a muffin tin tray.. that way she has to take her time to get the food out.

Very good suggestions thank you.
She gets fed 3 times a day, have tried a few different foods and she just gulps everything.
I took her off sombody who didnt care for her properly when she was 6 weeks old maybe its something underlying to do with how he did or didnt feed her.
think i will try using the muffin tray! thank you

Ah good idea vanessa I was going to suggest one of these ridicuously expensive special bowls which slow the dog down. Your idea is much more economic!
