Night terrors
This might sound silly but can dogs suffer from nightmares or terrors? Leroy seems to randomly wake up barking sometimes, it can b very aggressive and seems for no real reason! I know dogs can sense/hear things we cant but I dont hear anythin before he does it an Diesel doesnt even flinch wether shes awake or sleepin....

Re: Night terrors
I'm not sure but curious to hear what others say.. Steff gets very animated and sometimes aggro when she is asleep she also twitches and jumps too.

Yeh they both run an make noises as they sleep, that why I thought it'd maybe be possible?

Re: Night terrors
Rocky often makes strange noises while he is sleeping, sounding like he is dreaming something unpleasant a kind of whimper/attempt at barking. Bless him, I just gently stoke his head/shoulders until it has passed.

Re: Night terrors
Darcy is the same, I often think she's having a puppy-mare. She whimmpers, barks & sort of runs in her sleep.

Re: Night terrors
Daisy makes lots of noises and twitches alot when she's asleep all the time. But once she did make different noises while asleep and when she work up was visibly unsettled and upset so I guess that was a nightmare?

Re: Night terrors
My dogs dream and sometimes have nightmares sometimes they make noises like they are terrified and will tremble, I usually just put my hand on them and whisper something nice and they seem to relax. Sometimes they growl and twitch, Tali's eyes roll around and jitter it looks weird!

Re: Night terrors
Gwen has dreams all the time, she will twitch, bark, cry, and she even runs in her sleep! Sometimes she wakes up suddenly and looks a little spooked but she is never aggressive or anything so I can't offer much insight on that. But I definitely do believe that they have dreams..good and bad.

Re: Night terrors
Ruger is 7 years old and until recently I have only ever seen her wag her tail when she was dreaming/sleeping. Then all of sudden about a month ago it’s like she has started having dad dreams every night (whimpers and twitches). Until now I have never seen her do this before. No sudden trauma and nothing out the ordinary has happened. But worried and wondering if anyone seen this sudden change before?

Hi & welcome.
To be honest, what you've described sounds like normal dreaming which most dogs do. Maybe you've never really seen it before?
