Molly
Hi ya, we got Molly on 30th march as a four month old, we were her 5th home, while we have made some great progress with her I can see why no one would keep her. No one told me that the only way to keep your dog happy is three hours of running every day or she will bite the Mrs

Re: Molly
Is it a problem? Sounds like it may be. There are lots of people on here who have experienced the same/similar - esp when puppy is that age. She can be trained out of it, I'm sure, and it may be best to nip it in the bud. Puppies need to be taught bite inhibition - sometimes if they are taken away from the litter too early they don't learn and so need to be helped to learn. Also, a nipping tiny puppy can be very sweet but it's different once they're big.
What's her background and what's her personality like? I bet she adores you for having rescued her. It sounds like the few months before she met you were confusing for her.

I have tried the "ouch turn away " stuff, she don't mouth me any more but has started on the Mrs, god knows what her previous life was like, she is calm now compared to when we got her but is still 90mph, she will only do what she wants some of the time, she does know what is the right thing to do but is so stuburn, she has started growling at other dogs and refuses to give her ball and toys up despite loving them being thrown for her.

Re: Molly
Yes, they can get annoying in the so-called "teens" i.e. up to two years. I suppose it's a question of working out what you want to train her to do first. It's pretty normal for her to be flexing her muscles in this way but I can understand that it is not exactly what you want. What does your other half think?
I would post a query on the general page (Staffordshire Bull Terrier Chat: https://staffy-bull-terrier.niceboard.com/f1-staffordshire-bull-terrier-chat) or else on the Staffordshire Bull Terrier Training and Behaviour forum (https://staffy-bull-terrier.niceboard.com/f3-staffordshire-bull-terrier-training-and-behaviour) outlining your concerns and what how, ideally, you would like your dog to be behaving in a couple of months time.
I'm sure you'll get loads of advice. I think many people join this brilliant forum because of worries they have about their dogs, often regarding behaviour, so you are def not alone. And there will def also be a solution.
What does your other half do when Molly jumps up and tries to bite her?
I always bang on about this but my dog absolutely hates being ignored more than anything else. When he has behaved in ways that are unacceptable or he has just gone a bit over the top, I put him in a room on his own for about a minute. Comes out much more sober.
However, other people on here are much better experts than I am.
How did you find Molly? And how did you "click"?

I will post in the general pages in the future, i sort of stumbled in tonight out of frustration, as I am sure others do. Molly bit the other half on the back of the arm and back of her thigh while she was ignoring her

Re: Molly
Hi & welcome to the forum ><
Would advise the same as above regarding your OH turning her back when she nips her and ignoring her.
As for the exercise, I know they can be bundles of energy at that age but 3 hours of exercise if far too much for a dog of 7 months of age and could result in causing damage as she is only young. Maybe mind games like dog puzzles, treat balls, kongs, wonk wobblers etc will be better to use to tire her out mentally

Hi and welcome from Me n Steffi
At 4 months old you really shouldn't be running her for 3hours a day, she should be on a few 20mind walks with some offlead play included and training.. What are you feeding her? Some foods can cause hyperactivity (the same as some children eating sugary foods)

Thank you for your reply, She nips when my wife's has her back to her, we don't give her 3hrs of exercise because we don't have the time ourselves, she probably gets about an hour, but know that when she gets that amount she is a different dog for a while, I will have a look at the things you suggest, she seems to chew all the time so i will look into the things you suggest, I am going to start a new thread today in the proper section.

Thankyou for reply, She is 7 months now and we don't run her for 3hrs every day as we don't have the time or energy ourselves lol ... we feed her just dry food, purina Beta originally and now Bakers just as a change for her, she gets treats as training aids but the only other stuff she gets are bits of veg.

Re: Molly
Hi and welcome from me and Gwen! Purina and Bakers are not really good foods, tbh! They have low meat content and a lot of fillers! You always want meat to be the first ingredient! The food could definitely be contributing to the hyperactive behavior! Pups have loads of energy as it is, and the stuff in the food is probably making her even more hyper! I would suggest switching her to a better food asap! Just make sure that you slowly mix in the new food with some of the purina and bakers over a week or so, to avoid an upset tummy (can occur from switching to a different food too quickly). You should take a look at some of these recommended dry foods(posted link below)! Bakers and purina is like us eating fast food every single day, once you switch to a better food I bet you will notice a difference!
