Phantom pregnancy!
Not been on here for a while! Sky has been fine up till today..her spay date!
Turns out she is going through a phantom pregnancy..She seemed a bit odd but i just thought she was missing her staffy cousins(neurered males) that she spent a week with whilst i was away getting married!
Her spay has to be re arranged whilst she is on hormone meds but has anybody else expeeienced this?
I feel guilty for not thinking something was wrong sooner. Anyway i can comfort ?or just share your experiences with me..
they have confirmed she is not pregnant just the male interaction has made her think she is...

Re: Phantom pregnancy!
My girl has had 3 phantoms. Her last one was the 'worst' she went thru a mini labor and spent a whole day panting.
She didn't need meds, and she didn't produce milk.
She was very sorry for herself, but we kept her occupied with exercise / interesting treats and lots of snuggles.

Re: Phantom pregnancy!
a couple of days on her meds and she will soon snap out of it,we had lots of phantoms with sash(before she was spayed)she would pick a toy and mummy it,she's carry it around with her,put it by her teats as if she was feeding it,very sad to see ,but with in a couple of days on hormone medicine she would snap out of it, and shread the toy that was her baby ,try and give her lots more walks too, just so it takes her mind of it

Re: Phantom pregnancy!
What meds are they? I must admit I've never given meds to a bitch with a phantom - just let them work through it.

Re: Phantom pregnancy!
its oral medication in a syringe. to ' snap her out of it' or reverse her hormones aparently

Re: Phantom pregnancy!
Blimey. I'd have left well alone! They get through it in a week or so usually!
Ah well, the vet knows what he's doing.

Re: Phantom pregnancy!
If it's been going on for over two weeks, then it'll be very close to finishing anyway!
I suppose the vet feels he wants to speed it up so he can spay her. How old is she?

Re: Phantom pregnancy!
Once my girl finishes her season she has gone straight into phantom with labour 'type' after a month or so - we have just kept a close eye, she's mothered Tank a bit / cleaning, snuggling him etc. but mire exercise and things to take get mind off it helps a great deal.
I've always kept an eye on her 'bits' check for nasty discharge etc.
My girl has successfully gotten over her 3 phantoms without medical intervention.
