Hardest week of my life
As you all know Caley has been really poorly. This last week has to be up with one of the hardest of my life. To the point I actually thought we were going to lose her and I wanted to run away and leave everyone else to it .
Well it has now been a week and although we are not quite back to normal we are 95%.
She is running around playing during the day, even managed to rip my net curtain down and put a hole in it . She is still on chicken and rice 4 times day (small amounts) and she will have her last antibiotics tomorrow.
The main problem we still have is at nights, her poops have really thickened up but for some reason she still looses some at night. She is fine during the day, she will only poop in the morning, but she is only eating small amounts a the moment, at night I set the alarm at 2am to take her out and when I get her out of crate shehas a tiny bit of poop the size of a pebble stuck to her bum, I remove it and take her out but she doesn't go toilet, I put her back in crate and then at 6am when I get up, she will have another tiny bit of poop at her bum, again she will not go toilet until she has eaten and I take her out for a short walk....do you think this is down to antibiotics still, or where she had such violent diarohhea her muscles/nerves are still heaing - I am worried this is going to happen for ever - which I know is silly, but my anxiety levels are at its peak at the moment and I am constantly worrying and not sleeping. Actually glad to return to work for a break lol.
Thank you for all your well wishes as well

Re: Hardest week of my life
Sounds like her tum is still a little bit sensitive which is understandable. Think even when people get gastroenteritis or similar it takes a while for their digestive system to get back to normal as there are still bacteria in the gut which take a while to be killed off. Sounds like shes much better and if she is running around that means she feels better in herself which is great. I'm sure it will just be a meantime thing til her body sorts itself out properly. Also meds are known to cause constipation/diarrhea so this is probably contributing to it.
Just breath deeply and relax, you will be fine and so will Caley xxx

Agree with everyone else, she's been really poorly so it's not suprising she's not back to normal yet, I'm sure soon it will be ><

Great that she's feeling better in herself after being so poorly. But it will
take time for her to be completely right.
Been hard for you too. You will be able to relax again when Caley is back
to normal. ><

Re: Hardest week of my life
I am really happy to hear that Caley is feeling a bit better. Baby steps, as they say: one thing at a time. You know what it's like after you've been ill - it takes a while for everything to start working like it did before.
Do you know what was wrong and what do you think helped get her better?

Re: Hardest week of my life
They reckon it was stomach bug, apparently it is going rife around my area, they are seeing dog after dog, some worse than others.
She is on metrodizonale and noroclav antibiotics, so I think they are killing the bug, we have fed her chicken and rice for a week now and in small portions, I think she is really hungry now though bless her. But to give her her due, she has maintained her strength still manages to tug on her rope with force. I guess I thought she would bounce back like she normally does, she has a sensitive belly at the best of times, but guess I was hoping a bit too much...I'm sure once I get more sleep things I will feel more positive, although to top everything off my tooth broke today, so more expense at the dentist for me tomorrow - sigh.
Thank god I had pet insurance.

Re: Hardest week of my life
What's happening overnight is that she's farting! Because her stomach still isn't quite 100%, when she farts she passes a small amount of poo.
Once she's fully recovered she'll get full control of her bowels again & it'll stop.

Lucky dog that she has such a caring owner. It's awful being ill. It makes all the difference if someone looks after you properly while you are.

Re: Hardest week of my life
Oh I was getting worried about Caley, I'm so glad to hear that she is on the mend.
You and the vet are doing everything possible and all the right things for her, and I too feel sure that her poor battered digestive system will settle down back to normal. Big >< to you and Caley.

Re: Hardest week of my life
Well the vet is happy with Caley's progress and does not want to see her again. She said if the pooping incident at night carries on then to take her back in a week.
We had a little success last night she only had the tiny poop at her bum once in the middle of the night, when she got up this morning she was clear, so I am hoping this is the start. We have also started adding small amounts of her normal food to her chicken and rice.
Basically the vet said to get her back to normal now, albeit slowly, she certainly is starting to get her energy back, we all had to stay out of her way while she charged around with her stag bar - i think she thought it was alive...lol - so happy to see.
Thanks Everyone.
