Belle is not enjoying her food as much!
We had Belle spayed about 5 weeks ago now and all went well and she had healed nicely how ever since having the op she is not eating her meals like she used to? She has Hills science plan puppy dry food medium and before wolfed it down, but since her op she can go most of the day without eating it and I'm a little worried.
She has 2 meals a day but sometimes still has food from the morning un eaten?! I have started to put a little bit of tuna in with it and she eats the lot then so could it be she's just fed up with the dry food alone?
Any advice would gratefully received x

Re: Belle is not enjoying her food as much!
Some dogs naturally wean themselves onto one meal a day. If she's eating less in the morning then let her. Just give her a little more in the evening to compensate.
As long as she's a good weight (neither fat nor skinny) and she's happy & lively I wouldn't worry too much.

Yeah she might just be a little bored, you could try adding some tinned sardines in oil or tomato sauce or a raw egg, tuna is OK occasionally but not too often because of the high mecury content

My honey grazes during the day and doesnt rush her food any more except when i think she is on a growth spurt lol. She is always on the go and we can walk for hours. We had to take her off of science plan as she had an upset tummy all the time. Honey will quite often have brekkie still down til the afternoon i just top up in the evening. She is still growing and is now 9 months. Doggies dont usually get bored of food. Most doggies will settle with one type of food for the rest of thwir lives.
Honey was spayed at three months so was very much a baby still.
Does belle eat a bit at a time? X

Moo very often leaves her breakfast, I just take it up, but with her tea I sometimes add raw egg or sardines to make it a little bit extra yummy

Three months? Wow, that's young.
I wouldn't recommend leaving food down as it can promote fussiness. If they don't eat their food in the morning just pick it up. If it's just dry food then it can be put down again later with a top up for the evening.

Thank you I did wonder if she was just happier having one meal a day but wasn't sure if she was too young yet? Every step is a new one for us so its brilliant to have such good advice to help and she is still really lively so she must be just doing what's right for her x

Re: Belle is not enjoying her food as much!
My vet decided she was a good size and very healthy. He recommended having her done then as she would heal far quicker. Havemt had any problems with her having it done so early bless her.

I will take her food up now if its not eaten too as I have just been leaving it down, and I'll also add some sardines to it rather than tuna I'm sure she'll love that x

Re: Belle is not enjoying her food as much!
She does seem to be thriving on the Hills and no tummy problems so we'll keep with that and add a little sardines in and out x thanks for your advice Janey x
