Where my son goes to school there are a few kids who truly do live in poverty, one little girl came for tea after school, she had holes in the soles of her shoes, her coat was torn and she ate the tuna pasta bake i had made quicker than anything, i asked if she would like some more and she said yes please as they have not much food at home so she wouldn't be having anything else to eat until tomorrows school lunch....i was so sad for her, she is only 6. i also felt a little guilty that my son is completely spoilt, but i guess that's life.

I'm probably an old cynic, but I bet her parents find enough money for cigarettes & alcohol. Sad

When I was that age we had very little. My mum used to go without an evening meal - she'd tell my dad that she'd had hers when we had our tea - but we always had 3 meals a day without fail. It wasn't fancy stuff, but it was good food. But I see these parents smoking away & walking round with cans of strong beer & their kids with no coats & holes in their shoes - makes my blood boil.

My sister is training as a teacher and has some sad stories from placements, kids sitting outside the pub all night while their parents are inside, having a packet of crisps for tea Surprised Sad

Completely agree Caryll. The Mrs and I have always made sure that the kids were sorted first. Normally they looked the part and me and her walked about like a couple of tramps Laughing but wouldn't have it any other way. I see allot of people nowadays walking about with designer clothes, nails done, not a hair out of place and the kids look like tramps angry

I can't believe that there is so much poverty about, since the introduction of food banks it as suspiciously increased..mmm I wonder why. Is it because everyone is now jumping on the bandwagon.. I was watching skint the other night. How these people claim to be poor is beyond me. They have bigger TV's then I've ever seen, all the latest computer games and laptops, and branded shoes etc, all the kids have bikes and the like, and they are always standing with a tinny and a fag in their hands, they don't really know the meaning of poverty in it's true sense.. Don't get me wrong, there will be some that are really on the poverty line, but it will be those that keep it to themselves and struggle on, rather than go to food banks..
