PERO Dog Food
Hi there all,
I want to change dog food for Thor as i think he might be a little sensitive to cereals and additives etc. basically whats in cheap dog foods. So far i have been feeding him on WEBBOX for working dog foods and this has cereals as its main ingredient, so i have found pero well basically two types of pero dog food: PERO SBT (for Staffs, which is a bit expensive for me) but i also found one (PERO Premium) that is great in price for me and has pretty interesting ingredient list:
Extruded Cereals, Meat Products, Cooked cereals, Vegetable Protein, Animal Fats, Minerals, Vegetable Oils, Vitamins and Minerals, Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, Biotin, Folic Acid, Nicotinic Acid (Niacin), Pantothenic Acid from Calcium Pantothenate, Deoderase - a natural extract from the yucca plant to aid in neutralising offensive odours.
Nutritional Analysis
Protein 23%, Oil 7%, Fibre 4%, Ash 11%, Vitamin A 8,000 IU/kg, Vitamin D3 1,200 IU/kg, Vitamin E (Alpha Tocopherol) 80 IU/kg, Copper (as Cupric Sulphate) 25mg/kg
One thing im unsure of is the Extruded Cereals, does htat mean its another cereal food? From looking at the ingredients does it look good or maybe any of you has previous experience? I mean its a 15kg bag and it only costs £20 which is affordable to me, would you say its better than Webbox for working dogs?
Thank you for looking replies are welcome

Re: PERO Dog Food
Same as Janey. I know a lot of people like Pero, but I'm not a fan.
Any food that doesn't have good quality meat or fish as its first ingredient (not meat meal) isn't worth feeding!

Re: PERO Dog Food
No, not really. The Pero SBT food is just gimmicky, and the others have way too many cereals for my liking.
For example, Wainwrights salmon & potato has these ingredients...
Ingredient(s):
Salmon Protein (min. 23%), Potato (min. 21%), Sorghum, Whole Grain Barley (min. 10%), Atlantic Fish Meal, Whole Linseed (min. 4%), Sugar Beet Pulp (min. 5%), Sunflower Oil, Dicalcium Phosphate, Alfalfa, Natural Seawood (min. 0.5%), Sodium Chloride, Potassium Chloride, Methionine, Marigold Extract, Yucca Extract, Rosemary Extract.
There's a small amount of barley in it, but that's the sum total of cereal content.

Nowhere on there does it give you the percentage of meat content, plus the first meat content is just 'meat products' - that will include all the crap (excuse the language) that can't be used in decent food! There are far too many cereals for my liking.

Which brand is that? Doesn't look bad, although the maize content is very high & I'd be more inclined to go with a lower maize content.
We do love to see pics of our furry friends.....

You get what you pay for where food is concerned. One bag does me for two months.

12kg feeds Moo for a month so 15kg would do about 5 weeks (some it lasts longer) so your looking at less than a £1 a day (hope my maths is right) and 2 x tins of pedigree cost more than that!
Better food means less, Xx

Re: PERO Dog Food
I wouldn't be happy with the maize content - there really isn't any need for it other than filler.
What about this one....

Re: PERO Dog Food
Ledger is on Pero SBT and he is doing really well on it (much less gas than JWB) you get 10% off if you buy 3 bags so it works out better value and the delivery is no longer than 48hrs
They do do trial bags which is what I did first, came with a box of treats and voucher for £5 off the first order
There are better foods out there but Ledger likes it and their service has always been good ooh and he also loves their smoky bbq chews which I cut down into training treats
