could be in for a long night
sash has'nt eaten her dinner tonight and has been very quiet this evening, just laying in her bed,let her out for a wee a min ago and caught her eating grass, she's laid in bed with me now and her tummy is making all sorts of strange gurgling sounds and she keeps licking her lips,i have found in the past licking lips not a good sign, she normally does it before she is sick ,i know we talk on here about them eating grass,is it the grass that makes them sick or do they eat it to be sick, sorry if that does'nt make sense

Re: could be in for a long night
I have found Moo eats it and then is sick, doesn't happen often. She will be ok, mummy snuggles and rest.
Over eating grass can cause bloat but that's pretty extreme, Carylls Dempsy had a huge a problem (if I remember rightly) but for just a wee bit of grass I wouldn't worry Xx

Some of those are symptoms of bloat.
Keep a very close eye on her and if her stomach looks bloated, and she's restless or looks in pain then i would take her to the E vet
Hope she gets better soon

Aw, bless her, hope she feels better soon and agree with Steve, it might be the hot weather maybe? Some dogs don't do well in it.

Definitely watch her carefully. It might just be a bit of a dicky tummy, but if her stomach looks bloated & hard & it's still gurgling then get her to a vet. The air licking is a reflex action for a dog trying to be sick, grass eating is often for the same reason - to be sick. That in itself is probably not a problem, but if her tummy gets full of air that can't escape it can cause problems.
Hopefully a few hours without food & a bit of a rest will do the trick. Just be aware.

Re: could be in for a long night
You're off-line now Stella, so I am hoping that you and Sasha are now sleeping soundly (as I should be!).
As has been said on this forum, dogs will eat grass, and I have seen evidence on my walks that some dogs have eaten enough to make themselves sick it up again.
If Sasha wants to vomit, it's best she does so. Dogs are notorious vomiters - "sick as a dog"!
I'm afraid (and thankful) that I know nothing about bloat, but I would just say that in my experience tummy gurglings etc are a good sign that everything within is working, whether it erupts either end or not! It's when you press your ear to your dog's abdomen when he's obviously not feeling well and hear nothing - no "bowel sounds" - that it's worrying; well, that has been my experience anyway.
Hoping to hear that you and Sasha wake up Monday morning feeling a whole lot better! Please let us know ><
Just seen Caryll's response- she knows her stuff so is worth listening to more than me.
Do let us know how you and Sasha are; sending you both big hugs and best wishes

With bloat, I'm afraid, it's the opposite. A dog will try to be sick (air licking/retching etc) but can't bring anything up. Also, the stomach will gurgle because of the amount of air trapped in it. However, if the tum stays soft then you should be ok.

Re: could be in for a long night
I stand corrected Caryll. As I said, I know nothing about bloat and obviously I should do - I'm off to find out all I can about it right now.
Hoping Sasha is better later this morning ....

How is the poor girl this morning?
Believe me, Lynda, I knew next to nothing about it before Dempsey was ill! You learn very quickly.

That's good - it's always better if they can bring up whatever's bothering them. Well, better for them - you have to clean it up!
