Nearly caught a friend for Ledger
Just been out in the park playing fetch when we were joined by a lovely young white husky there were a few people walking through so didn't think much of it he was friendly and Ledger is content with a ball in his mouth but 5-10 minutes later he came back for the third time and I realised he was out on his own.
Such a nervous thing he wouldn't come close to me so I put Ledger back on lead and ran away...husky followed my house backs right onto the park so tried running through into my yard but he wouldn't follow and shot off, 2nd try I popped Ledger in the house and got some chicken roll (how it can be classed as human food I don't know but it works wonders as a training treat) but he still wouldn't come close enough so take 3 Ledger and a spare lead in one hand chicken roll in the other he was being tempted in but would only reach to take the chicken from my hand not close enough to grab his collar.
Then another owner walked past with his husky and he knew where this dog was from so using our dogs we tried to walk it home but as soon as he knocked on the door the dog shot off up the road and disappeared...no sign of the owner I ran off with Ledger and found it in a nearby street again getting the attention and he was happy to chase us again back into the safety of the park where dog ran into the arms of 3 kids (oldest maybe 12) who had come out to look for him trying to walk him holding his collar was not working so I leant them my slip lead and walked them back home
Well either way my good deed done even if I did consider what I would do if I did catch him and couldn't find the owner

And again....
Lightning! was out again this morning. I knocked on the owners door woman with a brew in hand answers I say "your dog is out loosing the park again" she says "I know!, he keeps getting out. I'll come and get him"
I return down the bank into the park and finish our walk keeping houdini dog in sight 15-20 minutes later still no sign of the owners
He wouldn't chase Ledger today...too many other dogs to run upto in the park
Covered my own peace of mind and called police incase it ends up running into the road again and causing an accident and emailed the dog warden

Re: Nearly caught a friend for Ledger
I just kinda got the impression that maybe they are just letting it out to have a run about.
I just cant understand why they wouldn't have come out to get him if he was genuinely 'getting out' of the house. (The garden is completely open to the front drive and the park at the side and back so you can see that there is no secure outdoor space for the dogs)

Re: Nearly caught a friend for Ledger
Lightning was out again today came across him in the park with a group of chaps that had been trying to catch him for 10 minutes, I did our loop walk and warned a couple of other dog walkers to the 'loose' dog then went back to the owners 'Oh Geoffs out looking for him' she said well obviously not very hard!!!!!!
Went home and called the Dog Warden straight away as the poor thing is pooing all over the park and is looking horribly thin (more than just a lean husky) warden called me back and was coming straight out and was going to see the owners

Re: Nearly caught a friend for Ledger
That is horrible, its a wonder why people even bother owning a pet if they aren't going to look after it and give it the love and care it needs! Good on you for calling the warden though!

Good for you Jules, I hope the dog warden manages to educate Lightening's owners how to look after him properly.

So do I, but I doubt it will change, if I could catch him I'd have him just a bit close to the owners to get away with it

Re: Nearly caught a friend for Ledger
He is out again today and running out into roads, called the warden again and they had already received a number of calls
Had seen the warden out and about around the corner less than half an hour before I got through on the phone so I hope he got Lightning and the owners didn't

Good grief. I hope the dog warden has finally managed to connect with Lightning's owners and they LISTEN. Otherwise they're going to lose their dog, either to the dog warden or a traffic accident.

Re: Nearly caught a friend for Ledger
Dog warden phoned me back on Monday to say that he had managed to visit Lightnings owners. Seems they have 3-4 huskies and from what the warden said 'expensive dogs that they wouldn't want getting run over' could tell he wasn't impressed that they have no fencing up around the perimeter of their house but apparently they have agreed to now keep Lightning at the front of the house not sure what difference that makes unless he was climbing out of the kitchen window, but we will see. I have since seen him tethered in the yard so maybe they have listened
