UTI Empty UTI

Post by otisthestafford Wed May 15 2013, 11:09

Hiya everyone,

Just wanted to ask peoples opinions before I go dashing to the vets.
Basically I posted about Otis having a couple of accidents lately last week - which have stopped now. Think it was just weather.
But I have noticed that his urine is a little dark but I wouldn't know if it was beyond the realms of normal. I have looked up the symptoms of a UTI but couldn't say yay or nay to any of them. He seems fine wants his food and wants to play, but he has been a little quiet lately in terms of resting more.
Should I nip him to the vets or just keep an eye?
I know what my OH will say - he's fine what are you worrying about... But I am just a little concerned.

Does he like cranberry juice? If he does, a small bowl twice a day might be all he needs?

It works with humans, so I don't see why it can't work with dogs!

Cranberry juice will help. Smile Make sure you check the bottle/carton to make sure there's no added sugar though, as that could be detrimental to your dog.

Also, if he does end up going on medication at all if it doesn't clear up, make sure you tell your vet that he's been having cranberry juice, as it can cause problems if it's used alongside medication for UTIs. Smile

Poor Otis, I hope he perks up soon >Big Grin<

You can get cranberry concentrate capsules from Holland and Barratt (if he didn't like the cranberry juice), assuming they're OK for dogs? I'm not at home at the moment to check what it says on the label.

Thank you everyone Smile I will let you know how I get on and if we do try cranberry I will definitely mention it to the vet - I would want for an interaction to occur!!

I think I am just being over cautious with him as he is my first dog, but I suppose you can never be too careful at the end of the day Smile
