Humping, biting and digging
For the last two nights Chiquito has had this 15 minute moment where he has started humping me, biting me (really hard bites and nips) and digging at the lounge.
Both nights that this has happened he has been on the lounge with me and I have been stern with the no and distraction for the humping and biting and given lots of praise when he stops - he continues to persist though (take him off my arm he moves to my back, off the back he moves to the leg etc) and when I do finally distract him enough to stop, he then promptly begins digging like a maniac at the lounge cushion.
This morning he did the humping and biting thing again during a training session on the floor and I ended up having to put him in time out to stop with the biting .. he didn't dig this time though.
I am happy to continue with the no, distraction, praise and time out as needed for this behavior however I wonder if anyone might be able to suggest a 'why' for the behavior ..... is it just a puppy stage, over excitement, anxiety, stress, boredom? ..... and if you think there is something positive/different I can do to help him move past it?

Re: Humping, biting and digging
It sounds like a puupy issue with some stress and excess energy thrown in. I think you are on the right track. Just keep being consistant and it will pass.

Re: Humping, biting and digging
I agree with J, darcy used to do this when she was chiquito's age, I just used to distract her with some mental games, ie hide treats and she has to find them or some training as you are doing, I think your doing a great job & your persistence/patience will pay off, keep it up

Re: Humping, biting and digging
Loki didn't used to hump anyone, but he'd have his moments where he'd bite me like mad and go psycho. It's just the excess energy, they have their mad moments. Keep doing what you're doing

Re: Humping, biting and digging
Thanks all ... I figured that would be the response, he just seems so 'highly strung' when he does it and it isn't pleasant to watch him get so worked up
Will keep on keeping on though.
