Re: Mushy pea shortage
That takes ages and a lot of planning. I decide what i want to eat about 10mins before i eat it. I would make them then not eat them, wasting the mushy!

Re: Mushy pea shortage
I love Mushy Peas over the last 3 years when I used to them before. My Auntie makes nice ones but the best ever was when I was in the lakes and the only pub in walking distance of the caravan site was £10 for Fish n Chips so I paid very grudgingly , however , they made home made Mushy Peas and the best thing I've ever tasted , could have eaten a whole bowlful.
It is incredibly dissapointing though how many UK pubs do not put mushy peas on their pub fish n chips and just offer the lazy option of garden peas

Ohhhh NOOO not the dreaded mushy peas, Yukkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk so sorry cant stand them. But just for you Davie boy here you go then, I couldn't let my fans down now could I :
Ingredients:
8 oz/225g dried marrowfat peas
2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
Salt and pepper
Preparation:
Place the peas in a large bowl or stock pot, the peas will swell and so need plenty of room to expand. Add the bicarbonate and cover with 1½ pints boiling water and stir to make sure the bicarbonate has dissolved. Leave to soak overnight, or for a minimum of 12 hours.
Drain the peas in a colander, then place in a large saucepan, cover again with cold water and bring to the boil. Lower the heat and simmer for approx 30 mins or until the peas have softened and turned mushy.
Season with salt and pepper to taste and serve hot with fish and chips or a tasty meat pie.
Cooked mushy peas keep well for a few days in a refrigerator and also freeze well, so make a large batch and freeze.
