Anyone else get this?
Well it's a beautiful day in sunny Kent, perfect for a lovely walk. So we've had a lovely walk + not far from home, this man is walking towards us. Looks at my 2 dogs, scowls at me + crosses the road
So we carry on + a few steps further, come across a couple with a toddler, man scoops kid up + mutters 'I thought they should be muzzled in public' + also crosses the road
I'm not usually a one to be stuck for words, but I just didn't know what to say so I just laughed at him
It makes me so very sad at the number of people who are so anti our fantastic breed, it's just pure ignorance.
Sorry had to have a rant, it sort of spoilt our lovely walk

Good one, Steve!
Tracey, it happens all the time round here, especially with mine. Every other dog in this area is a staff, so when someone sees Dempsey for the first time I get the crossing-over-scooping-toddlers-out-of-the-way-muttering-under-the-breath syndrome. I've learnt to ignore it, to be honest, and most people round here know Dempsey & either put their dogs on lead, let their children come over & stroke him or turn around & run the other way!

Re: Anyone else get this?
i get really annoyed too and cant stop myself from saying something to them. what is good though is that some people have told me that woody has changed their perception of staffs, people at dogg training said until they met him they too bought into the hype about them but now they like them as a breed.

Re: Anyone else get this?
Yes, a lot of people have said similar things to me about bullies.
However, I took Dempsey back to a training club I used to go to when he was 5 months old (for socialisation more than anything) and they all melted back against the walls! Dempsey just stood there with his feet planted & looking all big & bossy!

Re: Anyone else get this?
It can be annoying at times.
Yesterday or day before (Losing my memory ) I was walking Blue and some bloke with a rat on the lead came towards me. Blue stiffened up as he doesn' like other dogs, but was on the lead. I made him sit and said Alright? to the bloke in a friendly manner and he looked at me and ignored me like I was some smack head with some out of control dog.
Thought whats he so worried about........if he thinks that was aggression he should of met Blue 7 months ago

I don't get the hassle so much but totally understand have been there, just people know her now.
Its the blue rinse bragade that take a disliking to her and the ladies that lunch with there ankle biters that are just terriable. Luckly if I say Moo NO she will be by my side but they still always comment about a viscious dog! Its like gees look at your pet snapper!

People are just ignorant about bull breeds, I've had it before, I just felt so p*ssed off this morning as it was such a gorgeous day + we'd had a lovely walk + I was on top of the world, then some assholes just burst my bubble
Thanks for listening to my rant though

Re: Anyone else get this?
Yep get it, 1 little boy once said about Nitro "Look it's a pitbull, i don't like them" to his grandmother she told him it was a staffy just like the one he wanted.
Tracey i would have said to the man with the toddler'Yeah kids are supposed to be muzzled in public seriously i wouldn't worry about all these small minded people.
Maybe u could get a t-shirt made that says "U think my dog is vicious u should see me" or something like that or the old standby, don't judge by the breed.
I was at the bus stop the other day & a woman walked past with a staffy and he came to say hello( i think he could smell my 2 on me) and i asked if it was okay to pat him the lady said i was the only one who didn't move away or cross the street when they saw here & her dog, i told her that i also had a staffy & knew how she felt, she said her staffy loves to go running & jumping on people & some woman didn't like that and got abusive.

I'm with gem on this one, I get it quite a bit with Molly, she gets odd looks and comments and stuff, even more when we are out with a friends lab. But I just ignore it, thankfully in my village, the nice comments about her looking fit and healthy outweigh the negative ones.

Re: Anyone else get this?
Thanks everyone. We had a great walk today, weather still gorgeous in sunny Kent
We come across an old boy + an older spaniel sometimes, + today he was with a younger couple with 2 spaniels. The younger couple gave my 2 a right wide berth, + the old boy, as soon as he saw my 2, gave a huge grin + bellowed at the top of his voice (as he always does when he sees us) 'HELLOOOOOOOO BABIES'
Made my weekend, made me feel good

Re: Anyone else get this?
I haven't had much of a problem with Saxon yet, but with my foster Pit, Benny, in fall '09, I got it all the time. I had one person tell me that, "if his head gets any bigger, you'll need to kill him because that's when they get aggressive." ... really? People need to do research rather than listen to the hype. The strangest thing I've had with Saxon was someone asking me if he was a Beagle.

un-educated people who hear rumours and assume the worse ! i cant stand people like this i studied at college with a lad in my group who had a passionate hate for staffs calling em dangerous and ugly and he would make my blood boil and still does! untill i did a presentation on the breed and aimed alot of things at him and ended with "anymore questions?" and glared at him haha he never mentioned em around me again lol.

Re: Anyone else get this?
Just ignore them, their the ones with the problem
We've got all this to come next sunday when Bruno will be allowed out for his first walk
Many people just believe what they hear or see.so they take it as gospel that staffy's are an aggressive breed , which they not. It is the way they are brought up that counts my friend has got 2 rotties one is a girl who is 2 and the boy is 6 months, when the 2 year old shen she was a puppy my little girl used to go in the garden and play with it, and oh my the dirty looks i got from the other mums from the school as their walked past was unbelievable , my friends 2 year old rottie is soft as anything

I have now gotten to the point where i smile sweetly at people crossing the road and shout "thanks for moving your child / rat impersonator out of the way, I understand your child/ dog must be really vicious for you to do that and you care about the well being of my dog8 so well done for being such a caring parent / owner"
I then get a look of disgust or shock, which i laff at lol.
Brush it off, comes with the territory of owning a staff.
And i got that idea off someone on here, can't remember who, but its worked for years lol

Re: Anyone else get this?
Don't worry that sort of thing happens over here in Australia too !! I have had heaps of people cross the road and glare at me... some of them have 'orrible little fluffy dogs that go berserk barking and trying to get off their leads so they can race over and attack Jethro. Other people then hear the noise and just presume that Jethro must have started it !! Grr!!!
And people mumble under their breath about dangerous breeds.....
I mean look at my Jethro .. he is like a * cat ...he sleeps nearly all day.. is a lover not a fighter.. and he is so grey and walks so slowly.....yet people are scared of him?? He has been attacked by a jack russel that lunged at him while doing the RSPCA Million Paws Walk ( do they have that event in other countries?? ) Jethro was scared stiff.. but people just thought Jethro must have terrorised the other dog first. Double Grr!!

My little lads mum text me on Thursday saying she's not happy that I have a dog so when I had him at the weekend I let him take a picture on his nintendo ds. He's 5 and absolutely adores Jess got some great pics of them both at the weekend. Anyway I took him home on Sunday and he ran in desperate to show his mum a pic of Jess just waiting for the text now saying she's not happy that Jess is a staffy

When I was walking Dempsey yesterday a woman picked up her little rat-in-a-wig and stuck her nose up in the air as she passed. As she got level, I said "Morning! Glad you picked that up - Dempsey hasn't had his breakfast yet" and carried on walking!

Re: Anyone else get this?
Years ago I started up a mobile dog wash over here....now every Tom * and Harry does it, but at the time I was one of the first to do it. Well I can tell you I washed heaps of pit bulls and staffys and never had a problem with any of them. But I got bitten by a couple of small fluffy mutts... one I got blood poisoning from and also bitten by an australian silky terrier. The small dogs are often the worse! ( Mind you I washed an akita.. that kept growling.. I did not like that dog at all, and I used to put a muzzle on it ) Alot of people I know now weren't that fussed on staffys but because they know Jethro now and he is such a sook they don't mind staffys. But there are always going to be ignorant gits out there.......

Good luck with that, Blue, but I don't think I'll be picking Dempsey up - 31 kilos is just a teeny bit heavy for me.

I hate it I always get it by me, mums running the other way with prams and a stream of kids behind her shouting but its cute mum lol I find its middle aged people that avoid me the older generation always come over and say Hi. There is an old fella lives behind me and we see him vertually every morning he loves giving Ty strokes. I have had people run the other way cross the road walk from were they just came hide behind cars in gardens then come out once we pass its perfetic. My older sister will not come to mine she has recently had a baby and phones to tell me when she is coming so I can put Ty in his cage not in the house tho no I have to move it to the garden for extra safety and thats my sister. People make me laugh I just smile and get on with it now dont let it wind me up unless they mummble something then al let rip lol.
