Sad I think I have shin splints

Post by Guest Wed Apr 24 2013, 12:46

I've been running alot lately since I am healthier than I have been in years and was/am completly injury free. Today after my run I had a tightness in teh bottom of my shin. Looks like I'll be riding the bike for a few days and hoping it heals quickly.

A little bit. I've got a very high pain tolerance though and every serious injury I've gotten except for one was caused by me pushing through and continuing with the norm. It's just hard for me to rest I get very irritable if I don't get my exercise in

Ouch shin splints are nasty. Be sure to stretch them out before and after cycling.

Dont know anything at all about them really only bloody painful if you have them. Are you able to get hold of some support socks or something like to protect the area while you are running. The link below may help to explain it, but I guess you already know all about them anyways:

Feel for you mate. I get them all the time if I run cos I'm a proper flat footed elephant.
Hope it heels soon as it can be very painful and frustrating.

I'm flat footed as well and my feet point out a little when I run. I've had them a number of times before so I'm used to dealing with them Sad

Owch they suck! Bike will give them a good rest. If they are really sore try freezing water in a small soft drink bottle and rolling it up and down the calf muscle! Helps a bit after a run Smile

Thanks, I've been freezing water in a paper cup and tearing off the edge to ice areas for years. I've also got cold compresses to put in the freezer.

They are feeling better after some rest. I ran on them Saturday so think I'll cut back to 3-4 runs a week instead of 5 or 6.
