YES! I love QI, it's hilarious and you learn ridiculously pointless but cool facts. And Stephen Fry is great

Re: ELLIE....
I like watching that but would have no idea if I was on the show, but once they asked why when hinging a door you don't set the top hinge from the top pf the door the same distance as the bottom hinge from the bottom of the door and I got all excited cos I knew the answer So in that case from now on I will be known as King Dull

Re: ELLIE....
You joking, Mike? Have you seen the people on it? They don't have a clue either, they just mess about, which makes it extra funny

Do enlighten us, because I've always wondered why the bottom hinge is a lot further from the floor than the top is from the frame? I see no logical or technical reason for it myself however that is how I hang them as that is what seems to be normal. I might do mine the opposite next time just so people say "hey, you put your door on upside down".

Re: ELLIE....
I haven't even noticed, but just checked my door and the bottom one is closer to the floor than the top is to the frame, so apparently mine's upside down

Must be a joiner preference thing then as mine are all opposite to yours. Mike will shed some light on it

Re: ELLIE....
Yeah your top hinge should be 2/3rds the distance to the edge of what the bottom hinge is. So e.g top hinge 6" from top, bottom hinge 9" from bottom. It is because if you do them the same distance they look different since the top hinge is closer to eye level and the bottom hinge you look at more from a birds eye view, if that makes sense. If it does it will be the 1st time I have.

Aha, now you mention it it makes perfect sense, because looking at them from a seated position they look like they're the same distance, you only really notice when you open the door and look. If they were tha same distance the bottom one would look like it was too low. So Tara's door is actually upside down

Re: ELLIE....
Does the door have panels? or is it just a plain plywood door?
Wouldn't be the 1st door to be hung upside down. Went and did some work last month on a house that has spent 50k on an extension when he asked me what I thought of the doors I couldn't resist and said there gorgeous. Would look better if they weren't hung upside down. Should of seen their faces drop >

Re: ELLIE....
I don't know, it's just a door, I've never learnt about the different kinds of doors that's funny though that you ruined it for them by telling them their doors were upside down

Re: ELLIE....
No I mean what does it look like. Is it a plain and flat smooth door or does it have 4 or 6 raised panels

Tara wrote:Oh it has four raised panels, yeah.
There normally will be 2 short panels and 2 longer panels. The longer 2 panels should be at the top of the door.

Re: ELLIE....
No Saturday night massive topic guys...
I for one, think I may still be drunk from last night. so today will consist of laziness and recovery.
If someone ever starts handing out drinks that they have "made at home"..avoid them.

Always a problem when you drink that sort of stuff before they have brewed the antidote

Re: ELLIE....
I don't even know what it was tbh, think it was Poitín.
It was dangerous and I had two full pints of it. My good manors and calm behaviour went clean out the window shortly afterwards
