Not quite a poodle!
Yesterday morning I walked Dempsey in Bradlaugh Fields, a lovely, wild ancient quarry. I saw a guy walking towards me with a dog on a lead & one off lead, so as usual & clipped Dempsey's lead on & waited for them to pass.
The guy stopped & said thank you for putting Demps on lead & we started to chat. Turned out that his two dogs were rescues & probably litter brother & sister. He'd been looking for a rescue dog & seen the male, he'd had the home check & paid his fee & was just waiting outside the kennel for them to get his new doggie out. All of a sudden, from the bedding area at the back, a similar, but smaller bitch came out & stood against the wall, shaking!
He said to the staff "I bet she's been snapped up, she's very cute" but apparently nobody took any notice of her because she was so scared. "Well, I'll have her then" he says & takes her home!
So, anyway, to me they looked like poodle crosses of some sort, and the rescue centre said that's what they thought.
Anyway, this morning I saw him again & he said that when he got home yesterday there was a woman standing near his house & as soon as she saw him she shouted "My babies!" It turns out that she bred the dogs, and recently got told that they'd been passed through 4 owners & then on to rescue but by the time she tracked the rescue centre down they'd been rehomed. She nadgered the centre who eventually gave her the road the dogs had gone to (because she convinced them that she didn't want to cause trouble for them) & had gone to make sure they were ok.
She was thrilled although she wasn't happy about their temperament problems (the male is scared of dogs & the female is scared of dogs & people), but she put him right on what they were - they are champion bred Lagotto Romagnolas, an italian water dog....

Re: Not quite a poodle!
Great story and great to see a breader who won't give up until they know their animals are well looked after. Should be more breaders like her

Re: Not quite a poodle!
Really good story.
I wouldn't have recognised that breed myself and would have thought they were PoodleXBeared Collies

Great story. Shame they ended up in the wrong homes and ended up in the rescue, but at least they're happy and loved now

Wow, that's mad! Hopefully the guy can work on their problems so they're not as scared. At least they have a happy forever home now

Re: Not quite a poodle!
The bitch is much better than she was. Every time a stranger used to look at her she's go flat on her belly & pee herself, but now she just hides behind his legs!
The dog is nervous aggressive with dogs, but isn't too bad with people. However, he's managed to stop him lunging at other dogs now, although he still won't let him off lead if there are other dogs around.

That's so sad, I hope she can get over her fears
