undescended testicle
Evening
I think I have posted about this before but I just wanted to ask again as I am quite worried about when it would be time to start having a serious conversation about castration.
Otis has 1 descended testicle and the other has come through the abdomen and the vet can locate which is good. Recently I have noticed that the descended testicle has started to enlarge and I am getting concerned that will the other be able to come in to place. At what age would it be time to start considering castration if this testicle doesn't make an appearance? As I know the chances of testicular cancer in the undescended testicle increase. I want to wait anyway so that he can gain a some confidence and it will not affect his growth... but how long is it safe to?

Re: undescended testicle
I think it's when they're about a year or so old that you should think about getting him neutered because of it.

Re: undescended testicle
I would try and wait for 18 months. It doesn't sound as though the other one is going to come down, but at least you know where it is so the operation won't be complicated.
Has your vet given you any advice on it?

Ah right okay I thought it was about that age. We suspect it's because the ligaments haven't stretched enough
The vet said we could have him done from 6 months which I am against having looking into the pro's and con's, which the vet understood - He hasn't pushed it on us and has said if there isn't a reason to get it done then it's no real drama, but all he did say was that the operation wouldn't be complicated as he can locate it, he didn't mention as what age if it doesn't make appearance we need to start thinking about it. Bit of a mixed bag to be honest, but a concern I have in the back of my mind. Thank you

If you are still concerned about it go back and have another chat to the vet.

Re: undescended testicle
The testicle could descend any time up to 18 months, although it sounds like it probably won't.
If the vet doesn't see a problem, then personally I'd wait for full maturity. The biggest problem would be if you couldn't locate the undescended one at all, but as you know where it is it's quite a straightforward procedure.
