DIY...Aaaaaarrrrrrggghh!!!!
Why is it NEVER straight forward?
Back passage to our house along with the kitchen have been left in a mess on account of the dogs chewing and messing when they were puppies. Now they have kind of grown out of it we've decided to get it decorated. The dogs are in here when the kids are tormenting them or when they generally get in the way if we're doing something so it's pretty much the dogs domain.
I clear my schedule so I have 3 days to get cracking, today I repair and sand the woodwork and remove the skirters and floor tiles, giving me 2 days to tile. Pahahahaha fat chance.
Come to remove skirters and they're trapped behind the ex council floor tiles that are a minging blue and cream mix. No problem, I'll just blast the tiles off with the SDS. Hang on, whats this, are those, nails. Yep, nails through floortiles meaning they are clearly vinyl, and glued. Bemused I call for some help as this is going to take a while, so me and my bro start stripping the top layer of, notice I say top layer? Yes, thats right, there are also another TWO layers of horrible dirty vinyl floor tiles under here, so the schedule is now kaput and I reckon it's gonna take all this afternoon just to get the old tiles up. So tomorrow is now going to be prep day for the wood and I reckon the rest of it's gonna throw problems up, dam you old council houses :-( .
No purpose to the post, just having a double fag break and a rant.

Arhgggg vinyl tiles dont you just hate them. We are in council property too and fitted laminate flooring before we could move in. We had to spend 3 months getting the place habitable first though and also had the dreaded vinyl flooring everywhere. It's disgusting what some people are prepared to live in, dont go there.

Well the floor didn't prove to be too bad after all, lost my temper and rammed the SDS through all three layers of vinyl tiles, once I'd got underneath the bottom layer the whole lot peeled up in big chunks rather easily. Woods all prepped bar 1 piece of architrive that needs a bit more filler when it's dry as it wasn't bad enough to replace, tomorrow morning will start priming the wood and tile between coats.
The downside is as I was lifting the vinyl I ended up pulling a piee up from the downstairs toilet, which I was going to leave for now, however the rotten stench of pi55 that came from it has prompted me to rip the toilet and sink out to get the vinyl up and took the stinking rotten skirters off. So for now the kitchen is taking a back seat as the downstair toilet clearly needs sorting first. Hopefully tomorrow will go smoothly and the walls might not be too wonky and out of line.
