Honey Got Attacked!!! Empty Honey Got Attacked!!!

Post by HoneyBear Mon Apr 15 2013, 08:31

Crying or Very sad I dont want to s hypnotised

We went to the dog park. Its an off leash park and usually the dogs play beautifully and Honey and I come home happy!

But on saturday a fun day at the park turned nasty. A Large staffie x Pitbul came in and and just began targeting each dog. Sadly, due to Honey's size she took the brunt as most of the other dogs are a lot bigger than her. She has bite marks all over her back. It looks like she has dotty fur as there are just so many of them. She really is not a very good patient.

Any tips on trying to keep this under control and not allowing it to get infected? I'm using betadine ointment and a warm washer to massage and bring some of the bruising down. Just really cross that this has happened.

Poor girl, I bet it was horrible for you both Sad

Boils down to another irresponsible owner allowing an unsocialble dog to run wild and terrorize. It's so frustrating.

Don't let it stay with you though if possible, keep socialise her as much as possible and stay confident because it wasn't your or Honey's fault. She is young enough that she will just bounce back Smile

How awful, it sounds to me like you are doing the right thing. I would think about phoning the vet as well just to be on the safe side.

Thank you all for your kind words and well wishes. Taking her to the vet tomorrow. We have just returned from the same park even though my fear was still very strong. But I wanted her to keep going out and interacting with other dogs so she does not become fearful nor aggressive herself! To my absolute surprise she trotted in and played beautifully.

Its just so frustrating that there are idiots out there that take no responsibility for their dogs actions. When it happened I told the owner that he had to think before letting his dog off the leash and even when off needed to supervise. His response was crazy: "Its off leash park, its your fault your dogs weak and got attacked!" "Ive never been so angry!"

I would have had to have a few nasty words with this expert dog owner myself Tongues . Nothing frustrates me more tbh. If your dog is unsuitable to socialise and you can't keep them from approaching others that don't want it he/she should never be off lead.

Def his fault, not yours!

You are totally right keeping her socialised. It'll not phase her at all that way. They are a lot tougher than we give them credit for.

What a TW@T !!! Surprised at wits end

Hope honey forgets this alltogether ... my last staff had a roughing up in the park at about 8mths, and from that point on it was like a switch had been thrown that day ... and no matter what I did, he was completely DA for the rest of his days Crying or Very sad

You did the right thing taking her back to the park thumbs up

Wow, how horrible, and even more horrible at his reply. With an attitude like that, you can't be surprised the dog's gotten into trouble. Anyway, try to keep calm and continue with socialising her, she'll hopefully get over it just fine Smile

Yes, but do not know his or dogs name and as it was not wearing a collar am unsure how I would identify. I would hate to get the wrong dog- classed as a "dangerous dog" as the implications of this are severe.

She is recovering well- still loads of bite marks all over her back, shoulders etc but we are slowly getting on top of them. Smile It's funny, but since this happened she now likes only chasing the little dogs in the park and ever so gently will either jump over them or stop before she reaches them, giving them a gentle nudge as if to say "got you, run away- I'll chase". If a larger dog comes to the park honey rolls over on her back and submits. Fingers crossed this will not make her aggressive or dominant........

Thank you for all your kindness, was really scarry!
