Church bells Empty Church bells

Post by CMR Wed Apr 10 2013, 21:28

I now work away from the family during the week and managed to sign a 6 months contact for a place right next to a church that rings the bells at exact hours day and night. Wtf? No offence to the religious ones out there but this place has strict rules on noise after 8 pm!! And nobody warned me about this......!!!

I've got to say, church bells don't bother me too much.

Are they random, or at set times?

Usualy Every hour and thats bad enough but 10 min ago whoever switches the button on must have smoked a spliff as they decided to have another go. It's right next door and its very loud so if a window is open I feel like I'm in the tower swinging the ropes myself

Oooh, bad luck!

I wonder why they ring every hour? Is it clock bells? I suppose you could complain to the council but I don't know what they could do about it.

Haha, I am Romanian and so far I learned that most don't take kindly to my type so imagine walking into a not so recently established town hall asking for changes to be made. The Swiss would finally jump off the fence and start a war Laughing . I am in Pfaffikon in Switzerland they are really set in their ways here. Not allowed to make any noise after 8, I was warned about that but the big tower next door can't read I guess.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm sure I heard somewhere that in Switzerland it's illegal to flush your toilet after 8pm Laughing is that because of the noise?

That's a local rule depending on what accommodation you are in. In flats without much noise insulation you better play dead after 8 or some stuck up so snd so will complain and the property management company will go mad.

Wow, that's harsh! I'm all for keeping the noise down, but that's ludicrous!

I've always loved to hear the church bells ringing, but every hour day and night is a bit extreme, what a predicament

Church bells 392467You either need to go see your council for some help. Or perhaps when the lease is due for renewal, try and find another apartment where the bells do not ring at strange times. Church bells 616897 Church bells 153140

A tip for the future, when ever my husband and I move, we always make sure to spend time by the property we want to rent, we visit the property at different times of the day and night, that way we get a good idea of what we were thinking of moving into.

I hope you can get it sorted out to your satisfaction,

Best wishes,

Clare.

Thanks, we're both late 30's so really should have known better as we allowed ourselves to be taken for a ride. The hints were there, the church is massive and painted in white so you can't miss it !!! We even walked round it to get to the flat, appointment with the agent at half past the hour might i add...... Anyway, while sober we plan to talk to the local council while under the influence even breaking an entry to nick a fuse has been mentioned. We won't do anything stupid though so it very much looks like we are stuck for 6 months.
