Wow, that is so weird. I'm heading to the dentist at half 3. I dunno if I have a sore tooth or a sore jaw

Re: thank god!!
I had a root canal done when I was a wee nipper and it was honestly the most painful thing ever the needle going in just totally paralysed me
I dunno if it is a sore tooth but could do with a check up. I'm generally falling apart atm. Every day I get up I think I'm gonna have to be PTS pretty soon

Re: thank god!!
Ouch, front teeth would be extra sore I'd think.
Mine was at the back and it was horrid.
I'm the same mate. I see old men out running etc and think "How the hell can they do that? After the day is done I can barely get in and out of the car/van!"

I'm just about to leave now for the Dentist. If you don't hear from me again tonight I most likely haven't survived. Goodbye!

Re: thank god!!
I went last Thursday needed a filling but had to book another app so dont go now until May! Just hope it doesnt give me too much stick until then. I think the most painful thing I had was a brace especially when they tighten it if certain teeth arent doing so well as the others! Good Luck Mat!

Re: thank god!!
Oh dear. I have a massive phobia of needles and I hate the idea of having a needle stabbed into my gum one day. You haven't helped at all, thanks a lot Steve and Mat . On another note, glad it wasn't worse news for you, Steve

Re: thank god!!
I had 2 out last year, one was a back one and was uncomfortable but not really painfull, amazing how far the jaw opens when it needs too and it split the edge of my mouth it was froced open that far. The second one was a moler and my god that was excrutiating. I'd had it repaired with 2 others after an accident but I kept getting an abscess where one of the damaged teeth hadn't repaired succesfully, they gave the needle 3 times and I could still feel it so they sent me home with antibiotics. The pain that afternoon was so intense I tried pulling it myself but couldn't grip the tooth, went back a week later and I could feel it again as some of the infection was still there and fighting the anastetic, no way was I suffering another day so I left him to it. I had to shut my eyes so he couldn't see I was in pain and at one point I felt like I was going to pass out, once the tooth was out I felt so much relief and it was worth the pain to get it over with. I staggered out the surgery to the waiting room and felt very nauseus and hid to sit there for about 30 minutes before driving home.
I wont have them repaired now, if it's showing signs of becoming a problem I want it pulling ou, no repairs, no negotiating just get it out.

Re: thank god!!
I survived. She said my teeth and gums were fine and I've most likely just hurt my jaw. She said "do you ever grind your teeth at night or when stressed?" and of course I lied saying "No, never. Very rarely stressed me"
That's probably the answer then.

Oh god...this is like a thread for horror stories I'll happily endure my current pain for the rest of my entire life without complaint as long as I can avoid tooth pain/dentist stuff

Glad you survived Mat I had same prob as I used to grind my teeth bad when I was quite poorly. She suggested a gum shield to wear at night, but how unromantic is that "Excuse me love I just have to take me gum shield out!"MatLogan wrote:I survived. Re: thank god!!
I am SO sorry to hear that so many of you are frightened of the dentist.
I grew up in the 50's when the drill they used was a foot-driven thing that took forever, and there were NO local anaesthetics! So I was terrified of the dentist for a long long time; well into the 70's when my then dentist did at least have an electric drill and would give an LA for a big job, but as soon as I had a child he said "you've been through childbirth so you know what pain is, you don't need any more LA" !
I switched dentists to a much more modern outfit and haven't regretted it for one minute. I have had to have all sorts of treatment, including root canals several times, and can honestly say that the worst part was having the initial LA injection (why can't they rub a bit of anaesthetic gel or something onto the gum before they do this? I must remember to ask). But after that, it is all plain sailing, apart from having to keep the jaws open for long periods of time, which is tiring.
Be grateful for modern dentists - I know I am.
