A bit about Bob!!
Hello
Thank you to everyone for the welcome. Like I said, I've been lurking for a few weeks and have picked up some valuable information so far.
So, it's been 8 weeks since my boy Bob came to live with us. I say my Bob but really that's not true. Technically he is not my dog. I have never been a dog person, didn't really want a dog and with 3 children and a busy household, really didn't want another little living being I'd no doubt have to look after. After years of nagging about getting a dog (from the other half, not the kids ) I finally gave in after declaring it was nothing to do with me and I was NOT looking after the dog. From the minute we bought Bob home, he attached himself to me and the feeling was very much mutual. I didn't think I could ever feel so much for a dog. I love Bob to the moon and back... he's really my dog, a fact my partner has reluctantly accepted!!
Bob has settled well into family life and seems to have slotted into the daily routine. He adores the kids and they adore him - mostly when he's asleep and cuddly. My two cats didn't much appreciate the invasion of their peace. Lots of hissing and arched backs to start with but they have now developed a mutual respect for each other. One of my cats has actually become quite fond of Bob, when he's asleep, and will go over to him for some cuddles!! Occassionally Bob gets above himself with the cats and claws come out to remind him just who's boss around here. I also have some bunnies in the garden. Bob is itching to get to them. I'm not entirely sure what his intentions are They are safely out his reach though.
Bob is 20 weeks now and weighs 11kg. He was a bit on the skinny side when we got him. Sometimes I think he still looks a bit thin, other times he looks just right. I guess it's dependant on what time of day it is. I have to admit I didn't give his diet much thought when we got him, just grabbed some pedigree from the supermarket. Dog food is dog food, so I thought. Thanks to these forums, I soon learned the error of my dog food ways and within days of him coming to live with us I changed him over to james wellbeloved. I'm very interested in changing him to a raw diet. I'm just trying to digest everything I've read and wrap my head around it. I think I get the gist and change will probably happen in the very near future. I draw the line at feeding him rabbits He has a terrible gas problem, his farts are lethal and have some serious hang time. Thankfully I have a very large supply of tea lights and yankee candles. I actually phoned my vet yesterday who suggested I could try an anti gulp bowl since he eats like it's his last meal.
I take him out everyday for half an hour. We go over the fields which are very close and once we get there he goes off the lead. I've not had any problems with that yet. He doesn't go too far ahead and comes back when he is called. He shows very little interest in other dogs we might see in the distance. The first time we saw one I thought he would run over to it but he just had a look, then carried on what he was doing. His main concern seems to be about which blades of grass have been pee'd on!! Dogs that are up close and personal are a different story though. My parents have a min pin whom Bob loves to play with. The min pin on the other hand dislikes Bob with a yapping passion, a yapping passion which just seem to spur Bob on. He is also acquainted with my aunt's Bulldog. When they meet up, he gets to feel what it's like to be the min pin I let him out into our back garden every hour or so. He doesn't like the cold much so will go out, do what he has to do then come sit at the back door. Pretty sure if he could talk he'd be shouting, let me in. He has some basic commands down to a fine art, some other things are proving to be a bit troublesome. He's happy to run for the ball, giving it up not so much
Anyway, that's about it I think. If anyone has any thoughts, I'd be more than happy to hear them!!!

Re: A bit about Bob!!
Bob looks gorgeous and very mischievous. I love that you weren't a dog person but have bonded so well with him, that says a lot about what lovely dogs they are and how easy to love they are . Things sound like they're going really well, so that's great to hear.

Love these two quotes! My oh was exactly the same when we got Bandit, my Stafford, and again when we got Dempsey!

If you're interested, here are a couple of things to look through - the first one, especially, is good for a basic background into raw feeding...

Re: A bit about Bob!!
Welcome to the world of staffies. I'm assuming that like ourselves, this is the first time you've been owned by a staffy and, like us, his character and loving nature has totally won you over.
He's looking great. Certainly not skinny.
Keep the pics coming.
