i am free lance over here. hairstylist getting hired over here is super rare. the problem is that the tax for hair stylists here is 24%, so the tax we pay and the price of getting your hair done is really high. lots of hair stylists are losing their jobs and salons are going under. no one can afford to hire anyone because of the tax and VAT, the other day i was talking to the person serving me at the check out in a super market and learnt he had studied and graduated to be a lawyer, but no firms are hiring in fact lots of peole are being forced out of educated jobs because of the tax issue... the country is bleeding us dry. yes we have free health care and students get free education, but they had that before the 15% tax rise we had as well...
so, if i have to serve drunks in an australian themed bar and club to feed my dog and get his medical covered, so be it, could be worse, at least i have a decent job now

Re: chilling at work
i would be fine if my tax wasnt so high. since you need to factor in all your chemicals, heating tools, cutting, combs, insurance, personal tax and VAT, rent for the salon, coffee, magazines, shampoo and that... there is ALOT of money that goes into it, thats whywe need to charge so much, but i'm hoping things will get better some day
