Second dog
For those that have a second dog, does anyone have a boxer and staffy combination. The other breed of dog I have always wanted was a boxer, and just curious if anyone has this combination.
Also, at what age is it best to introduce a second dog. Brutus is coming on to 10 months now.
Cheers

Re: Second dog
How energetic is Brutus? My OH grew up with boxers, lovely dogs but can be very energetic and bouncy.
If Brutus is a laid back kind of chap then maybe consider something else but otherwise I think it would be fine.
10 months is a bit young to get another dog though IMO; I'd recommend waiting until Brutus is at least 18 months.

Re: Second dog
I was always thinking of a boxer myself because Logan is quite an energetic dog whilst playing. They are fantastic dogs tbh

Re: Second dog
I don't think that there is a dog in Dubai that can keep up with Brutus. He out did a husky, German shepherd and two salukis last week at day care. I was thinking that I'd wait till he is 18 - 24 months before getting a second dog.
Agree Matt, really love boxers. They remind me of a big staffy. Lots of energy and love attention.

I'm yet to meet an aggressive boxer tbh. They are too goofy to care haha. I truly love them and think they'd fit in well with an energetic Stafford

Re: Second dog
no my other dog is an american bulldog, but they are very similar to boxers in a lot of ways, however our next planned dog from a pup will be a male boxer.
Boxers are a very high energy breed and do like to play rough so could suit a staffy in that respect

unfortunately boxers do have a high tenacity to be DA and need to be properly socialised as pups very much like staffs!

Ah right I'd never heard this tbh. We meet a few Boxers on our walks and they've all been lovely. Maybe down to good socialisation though.

Re: Second dog
Never heard of them being DA either. Interesting, thanks Ella. As with Matt, I've only ever met boxers that just want to play with everyone and anything about, so they just seem to be a good match for a staff

yer it's a breed trait unfortunately, also alot of dogs tend to be wary and see boxers as a threat because of their square frame, stance and personality

Re: Second dog
There's a Boxer Specific Rescue Centre over here that if was ever ready for another I'd def pay a visit to. It's possible because Logan is a fairly OTT excitable dog that he gets on well with Boxers as they are similar to him energy wise. As with anything though you won't know until you try!

The white and brindle are my favourite. A lady up the road from where I lived in Aus had one and just enjoyed seeing it on our daily walk

Re: Second dog
Have to agree! There's a lady I meet that has two of them, a big brute of a boy and a lovely girl who was rescued from a Soutern Puppy Mill, she had been bred over and over. She had to have a eye removed before she could take her and she had just generally been mistreated. Apparently in a cage that wasn't big enough for her to stand up.
But she was still friendly and still put up with Logan, who must be the most annoying dog in the world for other dogs
Still a cracking girl and says a lot about her imo

Weve had a few rescue boxers and all have been DA
They are gorgeous dogs though, one of my favourites. We had a white one, she was beautiful

I remember you saying you had Boxers before. You should get pics up!

Re: Second dog
We're they DA because of bad owners and not being socialised?

Re: Second dog
I dont really know, i was younger when we had them so I didnt get told much about their background but im guessing so. Our one boxer, Tiger, was so bad on walks he actually used to frighten my mum when he came across other dogs. Indoors, he was the biggest softie ill try and dig out some pics!

Boxers are lovely dogs I have never seen an aggressive one. I would say they would be a good brother/sister for a Staff

like i said they are like staffs, need a lot of socialising BUT as they mature can become DA regardless of how well the owner has brought them up

Re: Second dog
Interesting, hadn't even thought of them being DA as they get older. If with another dog I'm assuming this wont be an issue. Either way, I think in 12 months or so we will be getting a boxer.

I've never come across a DA boxer, nor has my OH and his mum and dad has had multiple boxers for over 40 years...

Re: Second dog
Boxers mature very slowly mentally and they can have a tendancy to be dog agressive like Ella says .... They are very affectionate and friendly ... I haven't met a nasty one. They would be in my top 5 .
I think they would easily match the energy levels of a staff... They are goofy characters
I love all the colour varities too

If you want one though go for it! i certainly will be!

Re: Second dog
I've only met 2 boxers, 2 reds, 1 male Harvey and Missy the female. Harvey was DA and would stand tall and straight staring at Bailey while Missy is running around at 200mph Harvey passed away last month though to cancer lovely looking big dog he was aswell!

Re: Second dog
I love em too they are amazing dogs. I nearly wet myself when marley was a pup and started play bowing a 4 year old boxer...its face pmsl was just to die for like what you up to upstart and then in about 1 5th of a second it was ooooh play time play time bounce bounce bounce. tbh it has been the most tollorent and gentle breed of dog that my two have encounterd but that may be just because of the owners as my experiance is limited with them. i must say though that everyone i have ever met has been stunning, gracefull and gentle to my two. and they are truely stunning dogs

Love Boxers, I've had two of them. Our last dog, Zac, was a Boxer and he was dog-aggressive. But he was a rescue, his previous owners kept him locked up in the house all the time, so lack of socialisation. He was such a goofy, funny, loving and energetic dog though, and they do remind me of Staffs quite a bit, they're big characters, so I think they'd be a good combination

Re: Second dog
I'm not sure I would make a generalisation about a breed. How about a rescue so you know - more or less - their character when they join your family? There is a very dog aggressive boxer around the corner from me, but I suspect the owner never exercises him.
On the other hand one of my favourite memories ever was in Spain staying at a guesthouse by the sea. I would go swimming and their boxer would come in with me and swim with me. Sometimes he would try and climb on my back to grab a lift to shore. It was so touching, I still have a photograph of him on my wall.
"Tyke" turned up on Dogsblog today. He's a cross but cute as a button and you can see the boxer in him.

Or - someone mentioned boxer rescue. You could volunteer for fostering (as opposed to adopting) and when the right dog comes along you can go for it.
Just a suggestion.

Re: Second dog
I'm sure that most dogs if not socialised or received enough exercise have the potential to become DA.
