Tips to stop jumping up?
Hi there. We have an 8/9 month old rescue. We've had her about 2 months now and she is a work in progress as from what we can tell she's had zero training. The "problem" is she's incredibly friendly. While walking she wants to jump up and say hello to everyone whether they like it or not! This is even worse around children, who she adores. I'm already doing work with her to sit by me when someone passes, for a treat. I'm really looking for tips in how to tame her friendliness a bit (if that makes sense). She's been known to clear a playing field as she spotted a push chair. Obviously out in public this is unacceptable to jump at children and I don't want to have to keep her on a lead but I've no choice if the park is busy. She really does live up to the staffy rep of being friendly. Tia Michelle and Rosie x

Have you thought about using a long training line with her? That way she can get plenty of freedom, but if she decides to take off you still have control. Always use it with a harness, though!

Have you thought about a long line/lead, she then can get her exersize and you have control. Also the watch command can really help. As you said its a work in progress and 2 months is early days, be persistent and constant and it will pay off

Thank you. It's an excellent idea. It will help with recall too. She's fine until there's a distraction! Sometimes other people don't help as well by either letting their children wander over to stroke Rosie without asking or encouraging the jumping. But that's a battle for another day. Thanks for the replies x

Yes she does. We're trying to ignore it when we come in and make her wait til we're ready to greet her. It's tricky though, especially with an 8 year old gets all excited with her when we come in. We'll get there in the end

Re: Tips to stop jumping up?
If she jumps up at you, just say "No!" and turn away from her - don't pay any attention to her after that until she's calm. Get your 8 year old to do the same thing & join in with the training!

Re: Tips to stop jumping up?
Hi,
I'm wondering if you can help. I have a 1 year old staffie who is generally very well behaved. She can do most commands sit, stay, lie down, drop etc. We are having a problem with jumping up people, this doesn't happen in the house but more in the park. She is obsessed with other dogs and humans and will bolt to play given any chance, she does come back when she realises I'm not there...but this has become an issue as she can jump so high and has headbutted people trying to give kisses. I want to be able to be in control when she's off the lead.
