Help please
I have a 9 year old staffy he has been behaving strangely recently including following you everywhere even to the point of having me over he is agitated and keeps being sick he has a lose bowel and even went for another dog today for no reason something he has never done before. I have him and a small dog.he keeps dreaming and making noises when sleeping. He is fully vaccinated and Wormed using the programme flea and worm tablets. He is also drinking two large bowls of water a day now and the whites of his eyes are bloodshot. I am really worried and will take him to the vets this week but please if anyone has an ideas! Thank you for reading this.

Re: Help please
could be kidney related with all that water. if he isnt feeling that well and is under the weather it could be the reason he's a bit snappy...I'm just the same when Im not well. Dogs dont have the luxury of communicating with us in our language so we must understand them instead, especialy when they are poorley so be gentle and aware of his needs, watch him carfully and try to pick up all the subtile hints hes giving off. you would be amazed at what your gut instinct will reveal to you, Im sure we are more in tune with dogs than we are aware off.
A trip to the vets as soon as is his best bet like your doing, in the mean time keeping him comfortable and stress free will aid him so much. extra fuss and love is in order.
And btw welcome to the forum and hope to see many many more posts on his progress

Re: Help please
Before you take him to the vet measure his water intake and keep a a note of how often he wees throughout 24 hours.. Measure 2 litres of water and put in a bowl for him, make sure there is no other water source after the 24hours measure how much water is left. The vet will want to know these things and will probably ask you to do it anyway if you already have those measurements it will help them out It could be nothing to worry about or it could be kidney related, diabetes etc.. The vet will do a blood test to work it all out for you Hope you get it sorted soon

Re: Help please
I would also think it's kidney/diabetes linked.
If it is, don't be too worried - both of these can be controlled with medication. You just need to have him examined & tested by a vet.

Re: Help please
Hi and welcome to the forum from Rocky and me.
My first thought would be diabetes but cannot be sure, I'm sure the vet will put you right.

welcome, you need to take him to the vets with that much water intake it could be to do with the kidneys.

They have checked is urine and said that nothing obvious their but he is on antibiotics and special food if he doesn't improve they will do blood tests on him so £150 today and see how he is in 24hours! Thank you everyone for the advice believe me it has helped. X

Glad to hear they don't think it is anything serious.. And no I don't think you are an over anxious owner at all, that water intake is not normal, i would have been straight to the vets also Hope the anti b's help

Re: Help please
Latest on Harley he is still very lethargic I know he still isn't well, have to let antibiotics work but I am still very worried. My gut instinct isn't very good either,

Re: Help please
If you're really concerned, take him back. I'd rather be accused of being over anxious, than to let something go and possibly regret it later.
