chasing shadows
Hi Buddy has started to chase shadows, it doesn't matter what he's doing if he sees a shadow he has to try and get it, even his own. I am having to keep the blinds closed to try and stop him, he switches of from everything even if he's playing he just stops, stares and then pounces. Is this something to worry about?

Re: chasing shadows
Possibly, yes. You don't want it to turn into a habit otherwise he'll do it all the time.
As cute as it may look, the best thing to do is gently correct him when he does that so he doesn't get the idea that it is an acceptable behaviour.

Re: chasing shadows
We do try to distract him when he does this but within seconds he's doing it again and he quite often decides to go deaf as well, so any distraction techniques will be gratefully received. We've tried toys, treats and numerous other things but hopefully someone might have an idea that we haven't tried many thanks

Re: chasing shadows
Is there a specific activity that he enjoys the most? The only things you really can distract him with are food or that specific activity.
Zeus developed a bad habit of chasing his tail all the time, I didn't use a distraction technique to stop him, just gently corrected him (by saying a firm NO) and he soon got the idea that I didn't want him doing that.

Re: chasing shadows
Thanks for the tip I do tell him no but as I said he does go deaf. He stands staring at the shadow for ages and then pounces. He doesn't respond to anything you say to him when he's in this mode, it all started when my 4 year old son got hold of a torch and thought it funny when Buddy was chasing the light so the torch is now well out of reach. I think I will just have to persevere with the no and physically stopping him.
