Hypoplastic Trachea
Hi all,
My 4 month old boy has been diagnosed with having a hypoplastic trachea, and also has to spend the week at the vet to treat a chest infection that has led to pneumonia.
Has anyone else had a puppy diagnosed with a hypoplastic trachea before? And is it something that they "outgrow" eventually? The vet said that he "should" outgrow it and that "usually" puppies who have this problem at this early stage don't suffer with it perpetually. It's something that will affect his respiratory system intermittently. Is there something that I can do to alleviate some of the discomfort?
Thanks a mil!

Re: Hypoplastic Trachea
The only thing I can really think of is to ensure that your dog is kept at a healthy weight, as overweight dogs would be likely to suffer more.

I am sorry I have never heard of this ... Not sure if I am being daft but perhaps keeping away from cigarette smoke ?

That's not daft at all He probably should be kept away from irritants in the air such as smoke, aerosols, etc..

I've heard of it, but never actually known a dog with it.
What does it do? Does he need treatment for it?
