Jeremy vine radio 2
I got to say I'm absolutely disgusted with Jeremy vines debate on staffys today.. With reference to the little girl getting killed this week... Staffy staffy staffy.. Next to nothing about bull mastiffs which there were 2 off as well.. The boys I work with have met koda and think she's lovely but even they were umming and arring about it being the breed not the owners... That guy really didn't help today..

I was listening to this too, very disappointed in Jeremy Vine tbh, it sounded more like something from the tabloids than the BBC. Cannot believe some of the comments afterwards either.

I don't pay any attention to things like that, they just infuriate me because they're full of stupidity. If those people apply the same logic to people, they'd be racists. But racism is stupid, but singling out dog breeds makes sense? Nah, just stupid.

All dogs can be dangerous if they arent treated right, which can also be said about people.

Re: Jeremy vine radio 2
for an "impartial" debate, thats appaling. they keep mentioning "two bull mastiff's and two staffordshire bull terriers", as far as i'm aware the breeds are still yet to be confirmed.
he has a go at one caller who allows her yound grandchild near a staff, asking if its stressful to watch her grandchild round "a dog like that?" as far as i'm aware a young child should be watched with any dog, regardless of size/age/breed/temrement etc. "but he could be maimed for life by that dog", i still have scars 16 years after being bitten by a border collie, altho not facially, i'm scarred for life by an unprovoked attack. it can happen with ANY dog.
keeps saying "its never poodles", from experiance i wouldnt want to go near one of them, tempremental and snappy.
the lawyer Nick Freeman (Mr. Loophole, used to get celebs off speeding and driving charges with ridiculous ease, look up some of his work, its astounding) was a shining light, explaining the KC's recomendation of a staffy as a family dog.
overall, i'm dissapointed, its supposed to be impartial, unbiased debate, and he had a side taken before he started. if he believes the media hype, then more fool him.

Re: Jeremy vine radio 2
Just listened to today's follow-up. Lots of people defending staffies. Calls from people who HAVE been savaged by poodles, including a standard poodle owner saying how strong and vicious they can be. Plus the usual ban the breed stuff, none from anyone with any experience of staffies. Last comment aired was along the lines of - "the reason people buy staffies is as an extension to their own aggressive violent anti-social personalities" omg the ignorance

Re: Jeremy vine radio 2
The BBC are supposed to be impartial though, which gives clear grounds for a complaint in this instance. If they don't resolve it satisfactorily, then it can be escalated to Offcom.
You could well be correct, but it's always worth standing up for what's right - in my opinion of course

Its the BBC's responsability to provide a balanced opinion, I don't think they did on this occasion which is why complaints shoud be raised.

Well if that's why they are supposed to do they failed with that peado. So it's wouldn't shock me if they did it again.
Just to clarify, I don't even know who this Jeremy vine is.

Re: Jeremy vine radio 2
Listened to Jeremy Vine's discussion on Radio 2 yesterday on the subject of dangerous dogs in the aftermath of the tragic death of Jade Anderson. I normally enjoy the debates on this show but this one was so biased as to be ridiculous. The fact that there were 2 mastiffs involved in the attack was barely mentioned and he repeatedly made negative comments and observations when anyone supportive of the Staffy breed phoned in, while giving credence to a so called expert who had an obvious dislike of dogs. This " expert " even stated that, in his opinion China had the right attitude to dogs, limiting them to one dog per household, and these were mainly for culinary purposes. He had one caller who had been jumped on and grabbed by what she THOUGHT was a Staffy. She didn't even know for sure!! How can that be an informed contribution to the debate?? He repeatedly referred to the Staffordshire Bull Terrier as " a potentially dangerous dog ". Of course they are " potentially " dangerous, as are numerous breeds of dog. What a stupid meaningless observation. Fact: The Kennel Club UK recognises more than 190 breeds of dog. Of these 190 odd breeds they consider only 2 breeds suitable for families with children The Staffordshire Bull Terrier being one. The following is an extract from the breed description.
Temperament
"Although individual differences in personality exist, common traits exist throughout the Staffords. Due to its breeding, the modern dog is known for its character of indomitable courage, high intelligence, and tenacity. This, coupled with its affection for its friends, its off-duty quietness and trustworthy stability, make it a foremost all-purpose dog. It has been said that "No breed is more loving with its family" It is the only breed to have the words 'totally reliable' in its breed standard. Furthermore, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier is one of only two breeds from over 190 recognized by the UK Kennel Club to have a mention of the breed's suitability with children. "
Reputable breeders will breed for temperament as well as breed standards, but unfortunately many of the Staffies we see roaming our streets have been bred by back-street breeders who sell them indiscriminately to anyone wanting a status dog. These buyers seldom take the trouble to socialise or train their dogs, preferring to be the proud owners of an animal which all too often turns out to be almost as socially inept as it's owner.
Having said all that, it was a terrible way for that kid to die and, while we Staffy lovers will no doubt have to tolerate abuse regardless of how our individual dogs behave, this is nothing compared to what her parents must be going through.
P.S.
Listened to today's debate which was brought on by the number of complaints regarding Wednesdays discussion. It was much more balanced but he seems determined to demonise the breed.

Re: Jeremy vine radio 2
I made my complaint to the BBC, on the above mentioned show. I normally listen to him, but of late he is really getting on my nerves. He continually shouts at and over his guests, which is very off putting. He will give more air time the the one that he is in agreement with and will very often cut the opposing guest off.. He is meant to get both sides of the argument, and allow both sides of the argument to come over, but this does not apply with him. He reports hear say and factually incorrect nonsense. Declaring it to be NEWS, this is what is called as scare mongering. His answer is to destroy all these type's of dogs.. Does that mean he wants all dogs killed, as any dog has the potential to be aggressive.. I can't imagine what is going on in his head. Very bad reporting...
