Re: Hello From Spain
Oh dear thats so sad, did the whole litter survive ? You can start as soon as you can, best to get going now but dont expect too much from the pup as its so young. But anything it learns now is a bonus. I got Katy at 6wks, she was taken from mum at 5wks for new family but they wanted to get rid of her after 1wk. Very hard work, much like a baby

Re: Hello From Spain
Welcome at four weeks they're not even weaned off their mum by that age I think. The breeder really shouldn't have given him to you at this age either way. Has he told you how to feed him, what to feed him, etc.? Unfortunately, because he's so young, it's going to be very hard to train him; puppies learn a lot from their mum, but also their brothers and sisters, especially with biting, so when your puppy is older, that's going to make it much harder to teach him not to do. Also, just remember that he's too young to really learn much right now, so try to be patient.

Re: Hello From Spain
@Tara Thanks@ JenC.... Only 4 pups survived out of six. The owner kept one, myself and a mate took one each and the other was taken by one of the vets here. I know what you mean about being very much like a baby. I get up at half 4ish every night to play with him until he goes back to sleep and love giving him cuddles and stuff. How old roughly am I looking at befor hes gonna take any notice to me then????
I was feeding him milk from the vets but they suggested feeding him dry puppy food soaked in warm water so Ive been doing that. He seems happy and he has a stuffed dog we play fight with.

Re: Hello From Spain
They are very intelligent dogs, Katy was sitting for her dinner after 1wk. She stills loves to sleep on my lap (now 15kgs ) What Tara said about the biting is very true, Katy is alot better now but still has trouble with knowing that its wrong. Like i said its going to be a hard job

Hard to say, I haven't had a puppy so young so can't give any advice, but I'd say there's no harm in starting a bit of training now, but I think he won't really understand it yet, so don't have high expectations about it. It sounds like you're doing well hopefully someone with more experience can give you some better advice.

Re: Hello From Spain
The puppies would benefit from meeting up as much as possible for the next 4-6 weeks, so they can play with each other and teach each other how to play etc.
I'm sure you will do just fine - once he is old enough, make sure he goes to puppy training classes and socialise him with other dogs once fully vaccinated as much as you can.

You can take him with you, but you will have to carry him everywhere till he is fully vaccinated.

Not sure if carrying him would be OK, but definitely don't let him walk on the ground outside.

They're all different shapes and sizes, so if yours is only a little bit bigger, he probably is really four weeks old.
Do you have any pictures?

Re: Hello From Spain
Welcome from me
At 4 weeks our pup wasn't really running around, it may be that yours is a little bit older or more advanced.
I wouldn't walk it about yet as it may be a bit cold. I would just keep it warm in the house and well fed for a few more weeks, but allow visitors to come if they wash their hands. Just because the pup may have less immunity because it didn't have the dams milk.
You can feed scrambled eggs and give goats milk. Try to give a good quality food too
The breeder should have kept the pups together much longer because they learn a great deal from each other and cuddle up at night.
Good luck.

Re: Hello From Spain
I too had a similar situation. I took Steff home at 5 weeks old as her mum was pts and the rest of the litter had gone to their new homes so I didnt see the point in leaving her with the "breeder". At 5 weeks I was still giving her 2 bottles of puppy milk formula a day, 1 in the morning and 1 and hour before bed. The iggest problem you are going to have is his nipping and play biting, bite inhibition is something puppies learn from their littermates and mum from 5 weeks on. There is some great advice on here about training them not to bite
http://staffy-bull-terrier.com/stop_your_staffy_puppy_biting
But be aware it may take you a little longer to teach him this as he missed out on the lessons from littermates and mum.
The other thing is seperation anxiety, he will imprint youy as mum, and that can lead to anxiety when you are not around.. I know it is very hard but try not to smother him with attention and endless love. ( I know it's almost impossible )But if he gets used to being left alone for short periods now it will help later on down the track. This is a great read and it is very important for you to follow this as he is so young and it is important for you to establish boundaries

And lastly you have now joined the best support group you will ever find and any questions or worries you may have just ask, and someone will be here to try and help you Good Luck!!
