Driving In The Snow Empty Driving In The Snow

Post by Guest Mon Mar 25 2013, 09:09

Ok, so there's quite a bit of snow here where I work. There was none at home. I've never noticed until today though how most drivers have absolutely no idea how to drive in it. People revving the cars and slamming on breaks, wheels spinning and cars just simply stuck.

I work in Newtownabbey and nearly every road is blocked by someone that has no idea what they are doing. I ended up having to park about a mile down the road and walk in because I couldn't get near my building. A Range Rover had blocked the entrance for everyone.

It was so stressful, I can't understand how a Range Rover can get stuck but my little van just drove on no problem.

Haha that's why I don't drive in snow coz I would be one of those annoying people getting stuck! Hope the journey home is better Smile

Thanks Sazzle, I just have a bad temper tbh lol. Laughing Blushing

I'm gonna leave early so I beat the traffic. Snow driving isn't too bad but people have abandoned their cars in the middle of the road and everything and everywhere is a real mess because of it.

Sometimes driving is more of a curse than a benefit tbh Janey so I can see why.

When we went shopping while there was snow, we saw three near-crashes in the space of a five-minute drive. I think that sums it up Rolling Eyes

Sorry you're so stressed out. To cheer you up, here are some happy dogs Big Grin

Yep same here, into 2nd as soon as it's possible. Never accelerate and never ever break. If ya need to stop just drop and gear and the car slows down by itself a lot safer.

I know exactly what you mean, I don't know how anyone finds it hard. All you have to do is not do anything sudden or aggressive and the car will just drive on as normal.

You are right, people do just go to pieces and panic. I know it may be un nerving for some people, but truly if someone is too nervous to drive in the snow they really are a danger to themselves and everyone else and would be best staying at home.

I would love a Range Rover type vehicle for bad weather conditions .. Mind you we never get any snow here so it's pointless !

my thoughts exactly and im not just saying that because i want the road to myself haha
my mum for example is a terrible driver
shes been driving around 20 years or more and she still panics at everything, shes scared to even in the dark

i often just think that she shouldnt be on the road lol
and its not like shes an isolated case
im pretty sure about 70% of motorists are the same which is demonstrated at times like this when you just see loads of accidents and abandoned cars just because of a bit of snow.

late last year there was a severe downpour in newcastle and a lot of roads flooded. i got caught in it all because i was on my way to pick up my ex from work
it took me 6 hours to get there and back instead of taking 40 minutes and it was all down to people just panicking. there were people holding up queues of traffic because they were scared to drive through a couple of centimetres of water. all the while the water was rising and making the problem worse. i think its the most stressed ive ever been in my life.

we have no choice but to drive in the snow, but with us being at night theres no one else on the road, which in one way is good 'cos no idiot drivers but then theres no one else to help clear the roads!
