I want to keep my boy a real boy!
Right i know this has probably been done a few times but couldnt find anything recent, we have some new nurses at our vets and last time we took marley in to get his flea and wormer i got barraged about getting him neautered (apparently its cheaper at his age and weight) now his due for his nurse check up soon (all part of his vip plan) so i want to be prepared this time for the onslaught to begin, i really dont want to get him done, not because i want to breed from him but i think if he keeps a good even tempermant he can keep his balls Last time i got everything chucked at me cancer, tempermant, health ect and i ended up loosing my temper a bit. I know loads of dog owners who have kept there males well complete males and have never had any problems, so i need some back up here good hard facts to why i dont want to get him done, and if they dont listen il just threaten to get a new vets for him x

Re: I want to keep my boy a real boy!
Most vets push neutering early because as far as I believe it's a much more straightforward procedure for them.
Logan isn't neutered and won't be unless a health reason means I have to. I was thinking about neutering until I read up about it and the negatives put me off.
If you are looking to neuter I'd recommend waiting until he is 18-24 months so he can grow fully. Early neutering can effect their growth.
Don't feel rushed into anything

Don't be pressured. I'm not neutering my lad unless need to for a medical reason.

If he is happy/healthy and behaving well there really is no reason to do it anyway so if you don't want to don't feel you must because it's advised. Obviously however you have to be careful when out on walks etc incase he was to accidentally meet an un-spayed female. Apart from that, no problems

A vet has no say in what you do with your dog. Don't let them pressure you into anything without properly researching for yourself! My vets tried it with neutering and my choice of feeding! After making it clear they're not getting neutered and they're staying on raw they've stopped trying now haha!

No reason for them to pressure you, it's your dog, your money and your choice. You're not breeding him so you're not being irresponsible. I always assumed neutering whenever the vets said would be OK because they're vets, but came here and read about the pros and cons and didn't seem worth it. Our vets haven't bothered us about it though, they only mentioned it to give us the info.

Like just about everyone else it seems, we were "advised" by our vets to get Kuchar neutered at 6 months old. I was surprised because I had always believed (although not having owned a male dog before) that the pup should be least around the 9 month mark, when they were established in lifting their leg to wee. That's old-fashioned I was told, 6 months is much better.
Well I researched as much as I could and found reports/evidence via the internet that neutering before the male is skeletly mature leads to elongation of the bones and an 8 times greater incidence of bone cancer in later life. Plus, neutering before mature will cause the dog to remain at the emotional /behavioural stage he is at at the time of neutering. This information, plus the very helpful advice from the members of this forum, decided me to keep Kuchar intact.
Kuchar is going for his booster jab and general checkover on Tuesday (he's now 15 months old) and I won't mention neutering, but I'll be interested to see if the subject comes up!

If you feel there is no need do not do it if thats how u feel
I think vets/nurses have to push it for various reasons, but i would say next time u go to have a word and explain why he is staying in tact and thats that, u do not like to feel pressured!

Definitely do your research on this one - There is a really good article on here, I will find the link, which really opened my eyes as to how much more there is to know about the pros and cons of neutering at a young age. An informed decision is what you need to make Good luck with your decision and you should not feel pressured he is your dog.
