The rubbish in Bakers dog food.

I know we have discussed this before but maybe new members would like to see this.

BAKERS DOG FOOD...
The law has recently changed and animal food stuff manufacturers can no longer list 'permitted colours/additives' on products sold in quantities greater than 10 kilos.
At the end of the day, dogs don't give two hoots if their food is bone shaped, heart shaped or brightly coloured; this is done as a marketing ploy for the buyers. As a responsible dog behaviourist, dog owner, pet sitter, foster carer etc, I am not happy to feed dogs in my care THIRTEEN E numbers:

E320 - has been found to be tumour-producing when fed to rats. In human studies it has been linked with urticaria, angioedema and asthma

E321 - banned for use in food in Japan, Romania, Sweden, and Australia. The US has barred it from being ...used in infant foods. So bad McDonalds have voluntarily eliminated it from their products.

E310 - Banned from children's foods in the US because it is thought to cause the blood disorder methemoglobinemia

E172 - Banned in Germany

E132 - Can cause skin sensitivity, a rash similar to nettle rash, itching, nausea, high blood pressure and breathing problems. One of the colours that the Hyperactive Children's Support Group recommends be eliminated from the diet of children. Banned in Norway.

E102 - TARTRAZINE - A trial on 76 children diagnosed as hyperactive, showed that tartrazine provoked abnormal behaviour patterns in 79% of them

E110 - Sunset Yellow has been found to damage kidneys and adrenals when fed to laboratory rats. It has also been found to be carcinogenic when fed to animals

E104 - One of the colours that the Hyperactive Children's Support Group recommends be eliminated from the diet of children. Banned in Australia, Japan, Norway and the United States.

E171 - Banned in Germany

E153 - Banned as a food additive in the United States of America. Suspected as a carcinogenic agent

Grim isn't it!

Until I came here, I'd always assumed any dog food was safe because it wouldn't be allowed otherwise. Such a shame that you can't trust them to have dogs' health at heart, because at the end of the day, it's all about business

I dunno why anyone would buy rubbish like that tbh. It's not even really that cheap. You can buy really good foods for very little money. Doesn't make sense to me at all.

Allot of people don't go deeply into what is in the food. TBH it's a multi bilion pound industry, the companies should be providing better quality foods. Not like if they don't they won't make much profit since it's one of the biggest profit industries in the world. There should be better guidelines the companies have to follow

my dog was weaned on bakers, i didnt realise till the trainer tols me to get him off of it

Makes for quite distressing reading that article. Thankfully it one I will steer well clear of.

Terrible food!

I'm surprised they haven't tried to sue us, the amount of times we've told people not to touch it with a bargepole!

I brought Logan to Pets at Home a while back and he walked straight in and peed all over the Bakers stand. That basically sums it up.

I was the same and fed my previous dogs (not Staffs) on Bakers and always thought I was doing them a great favour. TBH, they thrived on it. But, I never read what the food was composed of; it never occurred to me that a dog food manufacturer would produce anything that was not the best possible food nutritionally.

Well, I know better now since coming onto this forum. Our new (at that time) Staff pup turned his nose up at Bakers! I couldn't believe it and joined this forum for advice, which I got in plenty, and very enlightening it was too.
