1st Venture outside
Hi
I am new to this forum just wanted to get some advice regarding our new addition to the family, Pepper, she has been with us since 6th March and will be 12 weeks old on 26th march and had her 2nd jabs on Thursday 14th March, we are dying to get her out and about for a walk/in the garden but have heard so many contrasting opinions regarding the length of time that we should wait.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

hi And welcome do you have any other pets or dog that have been in your garden if not you can let her have a little out sidetime in the garden as long no unvaccinated dogs being outside.

Re: 1st Venture outside
thanks for the quick response.....we have 2 guinea pigs but they haven't been let out for months now due to the weather....we have been in the property for nearly 9 years and have never owned a dog before......we get a few foxes but few and far between
We picked her up from battersea and they said to wait 7 days after 2nd jab but the vet said 10-14 days at least....we have puppy training classes booked for 16 April and they recommended getting her out and about on lead for few weeks before the class starts so just very eager to get her out and about socialising etc.

Pepper would be fine to go out in the garden now and have a good play and run around.

Re: 1st Venture outside
Hi
My pup was in the garden (and gardens belonging to friends that had vaccinated dogs) from 8 weeks, and before that if you count the breeder's garden!
There is a very small risk that your pup could get something from your garden, you're more likely to bring something into your house on your shoes!
Elmo was also out and about with me and the OH from 8 weeks too, everywhere we went, including places like the supermarket, he came with us, we just carried him until one week after his 2nd injection. We even went to puppy classes from 8 weeks, but again, he just stayed on my knee.
Socialisation is so so important. Many, many more dogs are put to sleep before they're two years old due to behavioural problems from lack of socialisation than puppies that contract diseases before they're immunised.
It might be worth ringing local vets to see if there have been any cases of parvo in your area just so you know whether you need to be extra cautious or not.
You might find www.thepuppyplan.com helpful if you haven't already come across it

Welcome to the forum
Pepper will be ok to go out into the garden, but just keep and eye on her. Logan had a real bad habit of eating things he shouldn't as a pup.
