Long lost Animal lover.
Hello everyone! Long time since I've been on here to read or post much. I attempted to come on yesterday and got to say hi to a few new members over on that board before I got pulled away again. My job has been keeping me very busy. Taking care of people for a living when you're considered PRN (as needed) instead of PT or FT kind of leaves things up in the air a little. I love what I do for a living, hate that the pay is never the same
At any rate, I trained at a new Clients house today, and about ten minutes after I got there in came this fawn/brindle beautiful Girl named Bell. Now, they're insistent on the fact that she's an American Pittbull. But she looks WAY more like a Staffy to me. I told my client about this forum and hopefully she will come check it out and realize the difference. I of course got licked to death and loved on. Since today I had no hands on anything with my soon to be new client, I got to pet and love on Bell lots. I wanted to bring her home with me!! She was just absolutely gorgeous.
On St. Patrick's day (my favorite day of the year as I get to celebrate my heritage!) I went to a new client's house and was greeted immediately by a Brindle boxer named Bella. I'm learning that this is a very popular name for Boxers, Pitbulls and Staffie's alike. I never did get to go back to my very first client who had a Staffordshire for sure. But I'm loving getting to meet new 4 legged furry friends along the way. When I took this job I didn't give a first thought towards running into animals as well as taking care of their owners, but I'm very glad that it's part of my job. I think I'm one of the luckiest woman alive to get to go in and love on Dogs as well as care for their owners. Most of the Clients that have these dogs have a very hard time getting around, and each and every one of them have said that it's their Dogs that keep them going every single day. My heart runs over more and more everyday with love and joy for these Dogs. I've asked to not be given anymore "new" Clients and to keep a select few of the one's I've already gotten to meet.
You might have already guessed that I for sure asked to steadily go to the ones who have animals. My Boss informed me that most of the other workers are scared to death of Pitt Bulls and other dogs. I said, that's because they buy into the horrible misleading lies that are out there about them. She said she knows that because she owns a Staffordshire Bull Terrier! I'm glad that she understands that most people are just ill-informed. Anyways. That's my update for now Hope everyone has a great upcoming weekend. I am off for the entire weekend as my baby girl turns 6 years old on Sunday. Bittersweet. She's literally the baby and will always be the hardest one for me watch grow up and turn into a young woman. But I'm so very proud of the little girl she is!
Goodnight everyone!

Re: Long lost Animal lover.
That must be a great part of the job, to interact with so many dogs you should sneak a picture or two

Re: Long lost Animal lover.
It must make your job a whole lot easy if you get along OK with dogs too. Maybe you could have a side line job there taking them for walks when the owners are to ill to take them ??
Glad to hear you are settling in well with your new clients too, I really admire anyone who could do nursing as a profession you really are hero's of our time.
Hope you remember to take some time out for yourself and not get to weighed down with work, take care hun ><

Re: Long lost Animal lover.
>< Thanks Kathy Just a girl with a big heart here. I'm not a "Nurse" yet per say, still have 3 years of schooling to obtain that title. I'm a Nurse Assistant right now, that only requires a certificate. but.. meh. it's hard work even still. I just look at it this way, I'm 29 today. but some point in my life I'm going to be older and no one knows for sure what tomorrow holds for us, so I figure treat others how you hope to be treated. I hope that if some freak accident takes my ability to get out of bed away from me there will be a Nurse or a Nurse Assistant out there that would be happy and willing to come to my home and help take care of me and keep my spirits lifted everyday. if not, hopefully the Hubby LOL.
The Dogs definitely make it a little easier in some of the cases. I will try to steal a picture away here and there Especially of Bell she's just gorgeous for one thing and for another I almost know I'm right about her being a little more Staffy than Pitty ... maybe I'm wrong. but with a picture maybe you all could help me on that one.
