Sleepy Dog Is A Happy Dog?

further to my post yesterday about snoring, im worried butkus sleeps too much!

when i picked him up his owner said he was too hyper for her to give him the attention he deserves with her three human babies...

and then i brought him home and all hes done is sleep.

the question is, is he sleeping because hes content, or for another reason??
i dont have any worries about his health, he has bundles of energy when we are out, hes eating well etc.
Im just concerned he sleeping because hes bored or something.
that being said he usually goes on three small walks and one long walk(6-8 miles) a day.
maybe im being paranoid but i want my pup to be happy!!
advice would be appreciated

Chances are, the reason the previous owner thought he was too hyper is because he wasn't walked/exercised enough.

If you are able to walk him as much as what you are doing he will def be tired and much better behaved as a result. After about 6pm Logan sleeps the whole way through to 6:30am the next day because he is suffiently exercised.

A lot of owners find their dogs are hyper and it boils down to not enough exercise a lot of the time. You are doing a good job for Butkus

Sounds like a happy dog to me, bored dogs usually try and find ways to entertain themselves and can become a pain if they start chewing everything up.

We thought that diet and exercise has a lot to do with a dogs behaviour, so long as he gets a good quality and quantity of both he should be fine. 6 - 8 miles per day should be perfectly adequate

Part of it is probably exercise, but if the previous home was very hectic, then he's probably never been able to fully relax before. I daresay he's enjoying the peace!

Probably that he's getting the right amount of exercise. But dogs sleep a lot anyway, there isn't much else for them to do besides walk, play, chew, etc.
