holy...
crap! literally!
I got a few little sample bags of fish4dogs food in a secret santa i did for the boys so i thought they would make good training treats for in the house, which they are they are these from this little offer if anyone is interested:
http://www.fish4dogs.com/Products/adult-goody-bag.aspx
Anyway next door have a new dog and Chance barks and growls at the door when they walk down the jitty, so took my chance to do some training with the boys. Anyway the little bags went down a treat haha
UNTIL we went for a walk where they both erm left me the biggest, stinkiest mountain of poop EVER! and no they didn't have loads and loads of kibble, probably 10ish bits each maybe a bit more.
Now i'm used to tiny little rabbit sized raw poop, so this was well
No point just wanted to share haha

Yes it's mad the size of poos you can see outside left after dogs.... Stella does wee cat-size ones on raw... She had to go to boarding (it was "home care" at somebody's home) for 4 days a month ago, I gave them her usual food and clear instructions, but she was still doing enormous ones when I picked her up, thankfully her stomach was not upset and she was oblivious and it only took a day or two... I would not like to feed her kibble never ever

Re: holy...
I feel your pain, Milton's are pretty massive (and he's done 4 of them today, too...) I'm gonna put him on raw this week, now that he's had time to settle in. Hopefully I won't need to take a JCB with me on walks any more...

Re: holy...
I know I shouldn't say this as I've always fed manufactured dog food - I tried to get Kuchar interested in raw but he just won't touch it.
Anyway, the comments above reminded me of a saying that was going around in the early days of desktop computing and programming - GIGO.
(Garbage In Garbage Out) - no offence F4D

it's the same when they have had kibble as treats, as i don't like to waste things so if i get a sample bag i use it as treats and no matter what kibble i use the output will never compare to that of on raw

Re: holy...
That is one reason why was I keen to feed raw - I can understand the logic that because most of the food is utilised internally there is less to get rid of the other end. And all the fillers that are in manufactured foods are useless to dogs so not only do the fillers absorb water and get more bulky, but they also go straight out the other end. Unfortunately my dog doesn't understand this logic and won't contemplate raw food.

Re: holy...
Actually Ella, I've been thinking ...
Although my spoilt brat won't look at raw meat, not even raw liver or raw bones, he loves it cooked. Also, he has to be persauded to eat his wretched kibbly stuff by a generous larding of cooked liver, a Wainwrights tray, or best of all by far - mixing in the cooked skin and gucky bits which we won't eat anyway of our roast chicken, roast lamb or roast beef (no cooked bones of course, except a carefully watched roasted lamb shoulder bone).
Now, if I got the liver, the hearts, the raw chicken etc (he won't look at fish in any form), and instead of trying to feed them raw - cooked them? Would this give the same benefits as feeding raw? ie no cereals. I'm not just talking poo here of course, although this was the original start of this topic, but overall nutrition for my dog?

Re: holy...
that is a homecooked diet and can be done yes however it's a lot harder to do as you do need to supplement due to the loss off vitamins and minerals, and then you have to balance the Ca:P ratio
So yes alot of people do it easily it just takes alot of research before hand

Re: holy...
Thank you Ella, I think I'll look into it ....
Just one more question - when you give your dog (in the singular, as I've only got the one dog) a whole raw chicken, how long does the chicken last? Does he eat it all in one go and has something else the next day? Or ....?
Trying to get a grasp on quantities here ...
Thank you for your help!

a whole chicken if i have them is one meal they eat a whole one in one meal.
however you could cut it up, so the wings, legs, breast, carcass and you would get lots more meals out of it

Re: holy...
Thank you Ella - bearing in mind I'd have to remove ALL the bones of a cooked chicken (hence the extra calcium supplements I'd have to give) one cooked chicken would only feed my dog for 2 days (given that your two dogs eat one chicken between them for one meal).
Ah well, I thought I'd explore it with someone who knows her stuff and I do thank you for your advice ><
