Rocky just back from the vet
Just got back in from taking Rocky to the vet, noticed yesterday he had cut on his foot on the pad. Didn't properly notice until late last night how bad it was. Phoned the vet this morning to get him booked in to have it looked at.
They gave it a good clean and bandaged it up for him and put a cone on him so he doesn't fiddle with it too much. Have three different lots of tablets to give him too. £100 lighter we leave the vets with a green footed Rocky, bless him.
There was another Staffy in the waiting room when we got out and Rocky put his nose right up to the nose of this other dog, was so cute.
Have to pop him back in on Monday for them to have another look at it, hopefully should all be healed by then.
Now just the fun part of trying to keep him calm and quiet. No walks until next week.

Eugh, £100 is an awful amount to hand out like that
Glad it got sorted so quickly though.

Poor Rocky, hope it heals soon!
You didn't want that money, anyway - you'd have only spent it on something unimportant like food..........

Re: Rocky just back from the vet
The bill had to go on the credit card as all the others for him do but thats all the card is used for.
At least we think we are pretty sure how it happened. Someone who lives around near us had put a broken mirror in their wheelie bin which was collected by the bin men on Wednesday.
There were broken bits of glass on the floor in the car parking area yesterday which Rocky must have picked up in his foot. He must have done it some time yesterday morning either going out or coming home from his walk as we went in the car.
Hubby went outside and brushed the area down with the yard brush to try to get rid of it last night. Will be sending emails to the local council and to our housing association. They have just increased our rent because of charges for looking after the community areas. Pity they dont do their jobs very well.

Thank you all for the well wishes, Rocky has had loads of hugs this morning. He is currently on our bed having a good snooze with my hubby. Thankfully he hasn't managed to get the bandage off yet

Re: Rocky just back from the vet
The exact same things happened to Zeus. After we got back from his Wednesday walk, when I was cleaning his paws, I noticed one of them was bleeding. Same thing again yesterday so I washed with salt water and keeping an eye on it.
Hope he gets better!

Re: Rocky just back from the vet
Rocky is going back to see the vet this morning and hopefully get his bandage removed. I have received a claim form from the insurance which is Argos so will be able to report how good they really are very soon, I hope.
I would send the bill to the council if I thought anything would get done about it, sadly I doubt they would even register that I had sent it to them.

Re: Rocky just back from the vet
Well, Rocky now has a beautiful pink bandage on his poorly paw. When we left the vets in was a light blue colour but we think that someone different did the dressing this time and didn't make much of a job of it, so we took it off when we got home and replaced it with one that we had here, thankfully.
Thankfully we have the insurance as God knows what the bill would be I haven't added it all up yet, but there will be more to add on Monday when we go back to see Dr. Bob. I took the Argos claim form in with me this morning so the vet part gets completed I can then pick that up sometime next week and get it sent off. I will then see how good an insurance company they really are and will let you all know.

Re: Rocky just back from the vet
£165 so far and counting, not as bad as I thought. We were only charged the consultation fee once when we first went in with Rocky. After that the charges are just for redressing his paw.

Walkies still off sadly Mat, I think Rocky is as frustrated about that as I am. He is being so good though bless him. We are just taking him out in the car at the moment to break up his day a bit for him. This does seem to tire him out though oddly and he will have a snooze when we get back.

Re: Rocky just back from the vet
I am getting a bit worried about Rocky tonight. Andy has now cancelled his operation he was supposed to be having tomorrow on his knee because he is so stressed about Rocky. We went round to see Andy's mum earlier and left Rocky home alone. When we got back he had pulled the whole bandage off his paw and was getting quite stressed out.
When he had this bandage done earlier this afternoon we saw another vet who said she had put a staple in the cut to help it heal more quickly, I think this may well be hurting him though. We are now going to have to go back to the vet tomorrow morning to get it re done again.
Does anyone know these staples are like we didn't see it at the vets.

Re: Rocky just back from the vet
I feel awful for ya Kathy I'm sure it's very stressful
I think staples are one of the better ways to help a wound heal. Rocky is most likely seeming more frustrated due to him not being able to get enough exercise.
Such an awful situation to be in.

Re: Rocky just back from the vet
Oh dear Kathy, I'm so sorry to hear that poor Rocky is still suffering.
I had staples instead of stitches in an operation site some time ago, I also had stitches at another time. Stitches tend to pull and irritate as the wound heals, but quite frankly so do staples in my thankfully limited experience. It must be especially worse when the wound is on the foot which has to be stood on, and when like a dog you don't understand what the irritation is and just want to relieve it, it must feel like a thorn in the paw to Rocky.
I do wish you the best of luck in keeping Rocky quiet and away from his poor paw tonight, and that the vet tomorrow will do something to ease his distress - surely after this time the wound is healing, from the inside out?
Sending all good vibes and >< >< >< to all of you.

Re: Rocky just back from the vet
Rocky had another trip to see the vet again this morning to have his paw re dressed yet again after last nights little episode. The vet said it was healing very well and should be able to get back to normal in a few days
We have another appointment booked for Monday morning which should be the last time we need go there for his foot.

Yes it must have been a really deep wound - poor Rocky
But, it's good news today Kathy that it IS healing - let's hope Monday is the last time you have to visit the vet for a loooong while.

Re: Rocky just back from the vet
I am very happy to report that Rocky's foot has now healed up beautifully and he no longer has his bandage on. His dew claw has rubbed on his leg a little though and made a small sore patch but nothing major to worry about.
The vet said she is very pleased with how it had healed and took the staple out which has helped to heal it quicker. We can go shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh walkies (I'm looking over my shoulder as I type that word very quietly right now) later on today.
Such a relief to see the little fella with his white paw back proudly on show.

Thankfully we have Rocky insured and have submitted a claim form to the vet. It has an excess of £65 so that's all we should have to pay towards it. The total bill came to about £240 so the credit card took a bit of a pounding this month, just hope they pay out quickly.
