OW
Took Loki to the field and played some tug-of-war. He did his usual jumping to get the part that I'm holding onto, and...well, he ripped the skin off the part where the cuticle is or whatever. Lots of blood, lots of Loki not caring and continuing to sniff without a care in the world. Demon . It's the worst injury he's given me, but it's a small comfort to know that the only time he really bites now is by accident during play. It's still bleeding a bit now and it was ages ago . Ah well, we bonded afterwards and I forgave him for his lack of guilty by developing a new game for us to play
So yeah, I'd like to know how you stop your dog from jumping up or trying to grab the part you're holding onto during tug-of-war? This would be VERY useful since he does it often, just that this injury hurts much worse than the minor ones he gives me.

Nasty one Tara.
When I play tug of war or wrestle with Logan he sometimes takes it too far. Best way to deal with it for me is as soon as he seems to be getting too excited stop the game, then restart it when he calms down.

Re: OW
Moo used to do this with sticks when we first got her, she would go for it and just catch your finger, bloody hurt, did it to my brother and now they think she bites! That was 2 years ago and she doesn't do it now but I did teach her the wait command XX

The wait command is fine, unfortunately this is in the middle of playing. It's his tactic, and I must say it works for him very well Zac used to do it too, but he was always really gentle so wasn't a problem.

Ouch that sounds so painful! Most of the time ebony is really careful when eating/taking treats of you but sometimes when she's excited I tell her to be gentle or be careful and she does it really slowly! Same goes for when she's playing tug, if she gets a bit close I just say be careful and she stops trying to get the bit where my hand is

Re: OW
Suki is famous for this. Try to find a longer rope or toy if you can. Even with this Suki will move her teeth up slowly to where my hand is and if she drops it she will go for a higher grip. I think she may know that I'll let go if she does this.

That is EXACTLY what he does, you can see him slowly working his way up to where my hand is, and I'm sure he does it because he knows it'll end with him winning. They're so mean somtimes
