did i handle this right?
so Lola was left alone today between 3.30 and around 8, no longer than usual, she was walked and run this morning and left as usual with run of most of the house, some toys, food and water all as usual. i get home, and she's a little cagey. i've just headed up to my room now and discovered she's been caught short on the bed. she usually beats me up the stairs to my room (in the attic) but loitered behind me, and as soon as i saw the patch, without a word she tried to slink back past me. i gently nudged her back in the room, stripped the bed as if it was completely normal, turned around to find her wedged as far under my desk as possible. basically, i havent shouted, havent berated, havent even pointed a finger and asked "whats this?" as she seems to genuinely know she's done wrong. i've just gone on like its normal, thrown the sheets in the wash (luckily missed the duvet as she scrunches it up to lie on, and hadnt quite got the mattress as i have about three padded layers on top of the crap ikea mattress ) and am genuinley not bothered. she's relaxed a little now and curled up at my feet.
dogs. who'd have them...?

Re: did i handle this right?
That's the right way to deal with it. Never shout at a dog for going to the toilet inside. The only time you can correct a dog for going inside is when you catch them in the act.
If they are punished after they have done it, it will just confuse them.
You did right

You did right. Suki did that once and that's what we did. We also make sure to leave that door closed now if we aren't home

Re: did i handle this right?
Definitely the right way to handle it, no point doing anything after it's done, and she clearly knows she wasn't meant to, poor Lola
You'd love Loki then, he knows when he does wrong but doesn't care, his body language doesn't change at all, he has no conscience

Handled perfectly I would say They know when they have done wrong and have a way of making you forgive and forget pretty quickly

That's just the way I would have dealt with it too, she probably went on the bed because she felt safe there.

Dealt with perfectly , but the big question I have is why do they always pee on the bed and not jump off and pee on the floor , is it an overrelaxed caught short experience ??

I'd like an answer to this question too, Dave.
Kuchar sleeps at night on my bed, and a month or so ago he went through a stage where every night when I went to go to bed (having let Kuchar into the garden immediately beforehand) and was in the bathroom, Kuchar wee'd on my bed, smack in the middle or on the pillows! Needless to say my washing machine was constantly on the go and I was running out clean bed linen quicker than I could get it washed dried ironed and aired and back on the bed. And then thank God it suddenly stopped.
I could only think that maybe he was trying to make the bed smell more like "him" and less like clean laundry. OR, perhaps that he was picking up on my stress, as I was going through a stressful period at the time.
