Archie in the wars again :(
Well early sunday morning in the kitchen an Archie was playing in the kitchen, nothing too hectic, jumoed up and then screamed out when he landed, He was clearly in some discomfort and hobbled into his crate holding his left hind leg in the air.
I took him straight down our emergency vets and they examined him. They thought it was either ligament damage or a closed fracture, After X ray Archie had..... TIBIAL CREST AVULSION and would need repairing. I believe this is where part of the bone has dislodged and has to anchored back by surgery.
Well after a few days worried sick he is finally home and on strict cage rest for 4 weeks!! His obviously not himself and hates being stuck in his crate Whining and looking so sad.
Has anyone else had a similar situation and had to have their puppy on cage rest?? Any tips on making things easier for him would be greatly appreciated!!
The vet said this injury is very common with staffie puppies.
I just want our little boy back to his naughty self!!!
Thanks and hope your all well
Bruce

Logan has injued himself a few times but never has been that serious. Poor fella!
It'll be hard keeping him so inactive, all I could suggest is spend as much quality time with him as possible. Maybe encourage others to come over and spend time sitting with him to keep his mind stimulated.
Also, chew toys like stagbars will keep him occupied for a good while.

Very sorry to read of Archie poorly leg, thankfully you acted quickly in getting him to the vet, this will aid his recovery time.
As said above try to keep his mind active and give him ways to vent his frustrations, the stag bar will be great for this and plenty of chew toys. Good luck and please keep us up dated on his progress.

Re: Archie in the wars again :(
Get well soon Archie. I agree it must be terrible, loads of things to chew on and loads of cuddles is about all I can suggest.
I think it must be the name Archie and nothing to do with the breed or even the species. My eldest son is called Archie and accident prone doesn't even come close to describing him...

Re: Archie in the wars again :(
Thanks for all your comments people
Well after a pretty stress free car ride back home the games began!!! After a quick cuddle he was wanting to get back to normal and charge about, but i have been told he needs his crate rest so i reluctantly put him in his crate ( which i moved from the kitchen where it normaly is kept into the lounge where i would be most of the time ).
My poor boy started whinning and just would not settle!! I felt so bad for him as he just does not understand whats happening. After a while he began playing with his stitches so i had to put his cone on which just made things worse!!
Well............. After a few hours i was feeling awful.... but i had to keep strong for boy
I decided he would need a bigger crate seeing as it was going to be his more a less 24/7 home the next 4 weeks!!
So he has a brand new X large crate in the kitchen and a medium in the lounge!!
I have taken him out twice for toilet breaks/fresh air and his enjoyed this time and wagged his tail
His now much more settled in his bigger crate and having a well deserved snooze
Just pleased his home

I'm sure Archie will appreciate you getting the larger crate for him so he can be more comfortable and move around with ease. Sending big hugs your way, some for Archie and some for you too >< >< ><

Re: Archie in the wars again :(
Def think about getting him a StagBar. It'll really help keep him occupied.

Re: Archie in the wars again :(
Hope he gets well soon. that must be slow torture for a staff to have to "relax" for 4 weeks lol. lots of lounging and TLC needed.
Re: Archie in the wars again :(
Yeah its so hard not to just open his crate and steal a cuddle!!
But it must be rationed Easier said than done!!
