HELP!
In real trouble.
Murphy has ruined his dew claw (8th time) and im in a impossible situation.
I literally have been shafted from every angle financially this month and therefore cannot afford the necessary operation.
My insurance will cover it, but my vets wont accept a delayed payment from the insurance company....therefore in a impossible catch 22 position.
Anybody know of anywhere that helps people in this position?
Or any ideas? (other to selling my perk bottom on the streets..)

Re: HELP!
Could you try another vets may be? Or even speak to the current and ask for a goodwill gesture?
Our vets we use are the best, there care is brill, we once didnt have cash and the card reader was down and we were told to pay at a later date!

Re: HELP!
Sorry to hear this! Honestly I'd call around to reputable vets to see if there are any that will accommodate you.

Re: HELP!
Ask your Vet again, there is no reason why he should not. Otherwise go to www.rspca.org.uk select under SERVICE then select Veterinary Financial Aid. They may possibly help you
or go to Dogs trust 02078370006, and ask them for advice.
Do you know anyone on benefits who could take the dog to PDSA for you?
Make a complaint to the BVA about the conduct of your Vet.

I used to send my wife to the Vet and then either pay by card or pop in later never a problem but they would also work with the insurance company no issue , if something went wrong and they didnt pay up they would just call me up for it

Re: HELP!
I'm surprised that your vet won't do a direct claim for it - unless it's below their minimum for direct claims?
My vet generally says that bills up to £300 should be paid in full & then the customer should claim back from the insurance, but they will make an exception if you ask nicely!

Re: HELP!
been vets today.
They can do direct claim but have to wait until insurance pays out. so basically they want to wait up to 5 weeks with him in agony and risking infection.
So, thankfully between me and my mum dad n brother have had to stump up the !!!£680!!! that they requested for full removal of both dew claws.
(plus the £46 for them to tell me how much its gonna be).
However, hes now flat out high as a kite on rymadyl, and booked in for his operation on thursday

Re: HELP!
The way these vets work is disgusting, I've seen a woman in tears in our vet because her cat needed an operation that was £600 and they wouldn't deal direct with the insurance, however had she been insured through the company that the vet advertises for they would have done, probably the most expensive pet insurer there is. I can't understand how any vet can claim to care about animals when they are happy to leave an animal suffering until they get their cash

Re: HELP!
I hope all goes well for his operation tomorrow, sending big hugs your way >< >< ><
I've never heard of a poor vet either, they certainly know how to charge dont they. Glad you have been able to get the funds together so you can then claim it back from the insurance.

Re: HELP!
It is a joke in some cases, my practice has a minimum amount for direct claims. Anything under £500, we have to pay ourselves then claim back from the insurance, anything above £500, they'll accept a direct claim. If the insurance company is willing to do a direct claim for any amount, I don't see why it should be a problem for the vets. The pet's health should come first.

Re: HELP!
@goldie87 your right it should be the animals health that matters.
As a kid I always wanted to be a vet, not for the money but for my love of animals.
I still would love to work with dogs, again not for the money as it would probably be a put cut at first, but for love of dogs.
You would expect that the people putting so much effort in to becoming vets actually care about the pets health too.
I understand its a business not a charity, but neithers mcdonalds, and im pretty sure theres more compassion in a chicken anus burger then my vets

Given the current state of the economy £500 is a lot to stump up in one go, and I agree if it's claimable it shouldn't matter how much the bill is. The reason I have insurance on my dog is the same reason I have it on my vehicles and my home, because if something go's wrong I may not have enough cash to put it right. If my car were to randomly explode on my drive and take out the front of my house and set fire to everything in my living room, naturally my second call would be to the insurers right after the 999 call, upon explaining to the insurance company that I need a new car, new furniture and TV equipment and the front of my house re-building they sure as f**k wouldn't say "oh, just pay for it all to be done and we'll reimburse you", if you have to stump up cash in full there's little point being insured. All it takes is for the vet to call the insurance, give the reference number from the certificate to check it's valid, explain what needs to be done and ask if it's covered, 5 week down the line they get their money and the happy customer will not only come back but will also recommend said vet to friends.
