luxating Patella In Staffys

Has anyone had this problem with their staff?
I have 3yr old bitch who firstly had luxation in her right hind which was treated with pain killers/anti inflam and it put itself right. Then she has gone lame on left hind with same problem and has been on painkillers/anti inflam for 10 days and it doesnt seem much better and i can really feel it popping in and out!
Has anyone had the op? The vet had disscussed surgery options last time but im scared!

My friends Staff is 4 years old and has a similar issue. She was told that surgery would help too, unless she is really struggling though I'd not jump into that right away. There are supplements etc you can give her to help with the stiffness and painkillers that your vet can give if she is in pain sometimes.

When I joined the forum I was recommended to use Yumove, I did right away and have seen dramatic improvements with her dog

Thanks for your reply. Yes ill have a look at Yumove. Its worth a try. Just dont want to put her through surgery unless she really needs it. Its so hard though when she is such an active dog. Keeping her calm is almost impossible but this always leads to her being a bit lame!!

It's unfortunately quite common in staffords nowadays, but is treatable. Anti inflammatories will help, but are not a long term solution. Surgery is generally effective, although expensive (hopefully you have insurance).

I belive that Romeo (Taryn) recently had the operation & is recovering very well.

Thank you. Yes she is insured. It's just the whole op thing that worries me. She's so precious!

Thank you very much Kathy. I did search for post but couldn't find it. I've had a good read of it and it seems its quite common in sbt. The vet said it was due to the conformation of their legs. She's def going to have to go back to vets I think. Trying a few more days rest and see how we get on
