When to see about taking on an allotment this afternoon, basically they have two plots available now, one large and one small, so we pretty much decided to take on the small one.

Does anyone else here either have one or a large garden and grow any vegetables any advice would be great, we dont have a clue really.

We have a large allotment.

It's bloody hard work! Laughing We have a small petrol rotovator which is a godsend - the digging would be horrendous otherwise.

We had to get by without it for the first few years though! Nightmare! Laughing

It's worth it. The food is yummy, and it's nice to go out there on a summer day.

True. We got the rotovator last year. The relief! It cuts the workload down by about 80%. It also gets the ground much more friable.

If you can afford one (£100 upwards) then it's worth the money.

I've never done it myself but I work with the majority of potato farmers in N. Ireland. It's big work but bound to be very rewarding.

I'd love to grow my own stuff Smile

It does taste so much better. I know everybody says that, but I couldn't believe the difference the first time I cooked home grown potatoes - they've actually got some taste!!

They def do, most of the farmers I meet give me stuff right from the field and it's a massive difference. Big Grin

We have decided to go back on the waiting list for the allotment as my hubby Andy will be in hospital for his knee op in March and wont be up to the work that will be involved.
