Anti Boisterious food? Empty Anti Boisterious food?

Post by Sara n Ozzy Tue Feb 26 2013, 17:25

Hi

My 4 year old staffie is great fun but very very boisterous. he is on Nature Diet at the moment, mixed with CSJ dry food but I am sure it makes him hyper and think it makes his mouth itch after he has eaten

Is this normal or is there such a food which woudl make him a little calmer and less of an irritent? Or is it just normal!!!!!

I'm not familar with Nature Diet. Though if it seems to be irritating him I'd get him off it gradually.

I don't think there is anything like a low energy food, however if a dog has too much protein in his diet I've read it can sometimes makes them a bit hyper. However, protein is massively important. Just got to get the balance right of food and exercise.

I feed James Wellbeloved which is hypoallergenic and well priced. Logan has thrived on it recently and I've seen massive improvments in him.

I'm no expert, but I would say feeding a working dog food might not be the best idea. It's designed to keep a dog out and active all day, which pet dogs are not.

I would also think that there is an ingredient in one of the foods that he may be allergic to.

I would switch to a pet dog food, perhaps light and/or senior as these tend to be lower energy. But the best thing is to wait for one of the food experts to reply Big Grin

As said, a working dogs food is for working dogs.

Staffies can be quite hyper anyway, but try to feed something with little additives and no colourings.

I would agree with all the above, again im not food expert for dogs but if feeding a working dog food then of course this will have added energy boosters and not ideal for a pet. I would ween of gradually as advised and research now foods. Alot on hear feed raw and swear by this

Do you know what percentage of his food is protein ?? as not enough could also make him a bit scatty.

If you do decide to change the food please do so gradually to avoid an upset tummy.
